I think I understand your question and the answer is yes and no.

In some cases, people have very strong faith and a belief that their god gives them a higher status in life. They feel he gives them the ability to be able to be more able to follow a creed or code of conduct. Sometimes they feel he is able to give them the ability to care about others they would not otherwise be able to care about.

HOWEVER, there are people who attempt to use their god or some man professing authority from that god as a crutch. They fail to utilize any internal strength they have on their own, preferring to mindlessly obey someone telling them what to do, failing to solve their own problems. They are akin to mindless sheep, waiting to be taken care of and not realizing that they have a responsibility to attempt to take care of themselves. It reminds me of one of Aesop's fables where the moral is, "The Gods help those who help themselves," except they do the opposite. They DON'T.

It depends on your definitions of winners and losers and leaders and followers.

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself? (Mark 8:35-36, Luke 9:24-25)

In my book, eternal life with God is the reward of winners.

In regard to followers, what is the point of being a leader if you do not know where you are going?

With love in Christ.
