Make sure it's set for CC1--that's about the only channel of closed captioning used....

You must have a TV show that provides closed captioning...not all shows have it....

Lastly, if you have a CABLE BOX on the TV set, the BOX can strip off the CC1 signal and your TV doesn't recieve it at all...no signal, no closed-captioning....

At that point, all you can do is install a splitter BEFORE the box and route the Captioning directly into your TV and use that cable/antenna selection when you want CC

Or just remove the box completely and get your CC back.....

You should post more Information. IE Sony Bravia model # Those answering should make it clear that they HAVE a Bravia and managed to get their closed captioning WORKING using xyz cables. If you use the sony remote on the 46"s4100 there is a CC button. If you press menu and go to picture you will see a cc menu cursor right then toggle up/down to turn on/off CC.

You need to provide more details.
Do you use a set-top box? What type of cable, composite, component, etc?
You may need to enable cc on the box itself and some types of connections (ex composite) may strip the CC information.

Do you use the TV's tuner? Did you try to turn them on? Not all stations have cc info.

Probably because it requires 2 tuners to work (such as a VCR, or a second cable box). Most of the salespeople in the electronics store don't tell you that when they talk you into buying it.
