I don't know anyone which believes the church should be in total power.

Everyone agrees there needs to be a separation of powers, God also teaches this in the Bible. I for one believe that the most Biblical relationship between church and state is an established state church, like the church of Scotland was the national church of Scotland in 1688. The church worked as a moral compass for the state, by reminding them of their responsibilities before God. However the church was not empowered to run the government.

The christian church was never meant to a place of absolute power. Christianity is not based on forcing people to believe.

That's been tried, and shown to be a failure.

Too, it's interesting to note the absolute lack of world understanding that some people posess. The answer that mentioned that communism has fallen ... Well, it hasn't. The Super-Power of the USSR is gone, but Communism is alive and well in North Korea, China, and even as close as 60 miles from the United States border.

This sort would probably say "You know what I meant", but if that is their response, I would reply "Then please say what you mean".

And the Pope had little to do with the fall of the USSR; it was all about money. The country was bankrupting itself trying to win the arms race, just as is the United States today fighting this insane war in Iraq.

The church has always been in a position of power. Time has not changed this.

Well, depends on which church that would be in power. I believe in the word of God from Gen to Rev and I'm a follower of Christ. My worry is that whatever church that is in power might pass laws that would persecute my beliefs. I go church on the sabbath day, but what if that church decrees a Sunday law, I'm not going to obey that law.

I don't believe the world would be a better place if the Christian Church was in control. I believe the world would be a better place if people allowed GOD to be in control. Take that however you must, but that's my belief.

The Church has never lost her power. She will never lose her power.

It is a power this world does not understand.
Just as her head (or king) said to Pontius Pilate, "My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world my attendants (would) be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here."

It is a power evil will never overcome. "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

As long as ANY human is in control of this world it will always be one big sh!t box. And the bible describes the church as the many member-ed body of all those who believe in Christ. Not a bunch of buildings with bells on top.

If you are referring to joining church and state then I for one don't want to see such a thing happen though it will. Actually, seeing the church take prominent political power again will be fullfillment of prophecy so mabye it's not all bad. But the church does not belong in the political arena any more than the controls of state belong in the church.

The question isn't who's in a position of power, but what they do with it. I would no more want a church that would try to enforce its beliefs in power than I would want someone who would try to compel atheistic belief.
