Oh, you mean "Cafeteria style" Xians?
I'll take a little of this, and a little of that. I will pass on that.
All religions have followers who do that.
Followers who do not, and who adhere to the letter of their bible, or koran, or whatever, are what we call "Radical Extremists." Those are never a good thing.
Be thankful that most so-called "Believers" don't REALLY believe all of it.
Edit:
To Theo (the poster below me):
Oh, here are a few that come to mind:
Judge not, least ye be judged.
Love thy neighbor/ Turn the other cheek.
Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
If thine eye offends thee, pluck it out.
There are just too many to list and frankly, I don't feel like spending too much time on the obvious.

The Bible isn't to be "obeyed." It's just a collection of stories with morals to live by, dude. Most Christians don't think that someone should be stoned to death for not keeping the Sabbath holy or something like that, or that you'd turn to salt by looking at something.
Actually, Eater of Crayons, homosexuality is mentioned twice in the first testament. I think both instances are in Leviticus.
So anyway, I'm not a particularly religious person, but you know what? I have the mental fortitude to be respectful of other people's beliefs (that's if you're talking about religion. If it's about politics, then that's a different story). I'm sure you people can find something better to do than argue over Atheism or Christianity (if you ask me, Atheism is a religion).
In my life, I have found that both science and religion are wrong at about the same rate. For every time something in the Bible is proven to be impossible, something in science gets discredited. You can't really trust either, so you should just keep an open mind.

Some Christians do that due to their imperfect inclinations to be ruled under what THEY want to be ruled under. God talked about this in they bible in 1 Timothy 3:1-5 it presents how people would be, even though it goes against bible principles. It all goes back to Adam and Eve and Satan. It's the abuse of the free will given to us by God. But the bible assures us in Matthew 25:31-33 “When the Son of man arrives in his glory, and all the angels with him...all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats...he will put the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left." So the right judgment will occur. Mainly to give it straight though...some Christians are self-righteous OR mis leaded OR too lazy to do everything thats required OR they just go with the flow. This isn't right in God's eyes and it's good to know you realize this too. if you have any more questions... jrichelled@yahoo.com

I guess it's a universal feature of humanity to select a portion of the universe to "adhere to"
in the "universe of ideas", you sorta have to choose that which you call "good" and that which you call "bad"
Some folks select from among the 'Bible'
some folks selct from among the social codes of thier particular society
some folks choose from amongst the Upanishads
some select from the Koran
... *NO* body can follow everything written down or paralysis would result
some folks don't conscously follow anything, but if they were analyzed carefully, a mapping of behaviour to code-book could be derived
some people's code-books are unique ...
shoot, we're ALL unique at some point
I don't think the Christains deserve to be singled out for being selective unless theyt're big-time self-righteous about it
[this is *my* code book lolol]
and "yes" I know what you mean, I was just trying to expound upon it
we all do it
"ooh-blah-dee, ooh blah-dah life goes on ...."

the ten Commandments are plenty greater undemanding than the regulations against donning mixed fabric or touching a ineffective pig. As for those latter regulations, Paul had very much to declare in his Epistles related to the impossibility of following each element of the regulation and related to the ideal magnitude of religion. He additionally, mentioned in effect, "to each and each his own" related to the nutritional regulations. meanwhile, Peter had had a imaginative and prescient (Acts 10) that fantastically plenty did away with the belief-approximately kosher besides. precise now, by the way, i'm examining the daily alternatives from Isaiah that make the element that what God relatively needs isn't adherence to the regulations spelled out in early books like Leviticus yet is "the sacrifice of compliment and thanksgiving," "a contrite and humble spirit." The old testomony itself grew and developed. (base line, besides the undeniable fact that, particular, we in all hazard all do. on an identical time as quickly as we've examine the excellent Bible, we in all hazard do, whether all of us comprehend it or no longer. For one situation, we don't all interpret each line in it an identical way, and for yet another, we easily do no longer all have an identical theory of what's important and what isn't. And now and lower back we actually understand greater advantageous than those people 1000's of years in the past who theory they have been writing down God's orders did.)

What about going up to a Christian like that and ask them face to face? In my experience most of them don't realize so it might take YOU to drive it home, don't you think? What I mean it's not much use asking a general question, the thing is to be honest and open and ask THE person who you think is doing it. Of course, be polite but firm. Even if they become defensive and say things like "it is a controversial question even among Christians whether you are allowed to evade tax or travel on a train without a ticket", don't be intimidated - just hope that the question will haunt them and eventually lead them to understand what is actually giving Christians a bad name...

Some people do cherry pick and ignore parts of the Bible completely that they dont agree with and they are wrong for doing so.
Jesus said that true believers would worship in spirit and in truth. (the whole truth and nothing but the truth)

It's because we are human. Everyone has a yearning to do wrong, and we feel better when we can justify it. Some are hypocrites, in that they don't EVER try to do the right things. Some like havingthe image of being a Christian withouut doing all the work. Some actually slip up from time to time.
You can't judge all Christians on your own experiences, and it's wrong to STEREOTYPE them all to do that.
Thank you.

And why do those who are not Christians pick and choose those parts of the Bible to use to their advantage to attack Christians? People will pick and choose to suit their motives. It's human nature. When reading the Bible, it's important to read the whole thing so that one can understand the nature of God and be able to know what it is that God expects from us. Then it is up to us to do our best to live up to the expectations of God. If we pick and choose what we will obey and how we will live, trust me, God will correct us, in His own way, in His own time. Being corrected by God is not a pleasant thing, whether one is a Christian or not. He corrects us all (mankind) and it is the wise person who accepts this correction and learns from it.
