The term "Rotator Cuff" is used to decribe the 5 or so muscles that move your arm in a "rotating" manner. It sounds like you could have torn or even ruptured one of these muscles, along with a blood vessel. This may require you resting it or, more seriously, surgery.

I would see a specialist, an orthopedic surgeon will be able to tell you how serious your injury is. I am a certified athletic trainer and we are also trained to assess shoulder injuries with special tests that orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists use. There are 5 rotator cuff muscles, the supraspinatus-most often involved muscle, infraspinatus, teres minor and major, and subscapularis. I would seek a more difnitive diagnosis prior to resuming any physical activity.

Your Dr. should have advised you of what Physiologically has happened to you in a manor that you can understand.
Furthermore the Dr. should have recommended a method/regimen of treatment with some prognosis of restoring the "Cuff" back to normal ( or acceptable) range of pain free motion.
If not maybe you need to seek another Physician's help.

I hurt my tumbling in cheerleading. Damn that hurts doesnt it?? It was so bad that if i tried to tumble my shoulder would just give out. Try taking advil, it always helps. My shoulder was just like that, sometimes it just gives out for no apparent reason. Yours is probably like that as well.

Your 'doctor' is a 'quack'. Find a new one - a competent one.

Best wishes and good luck.
