as I'm sure you are happy and content with your beliefs....so I waste nothing, and gain Heaven in the end. and say there was no heaven how would I know, i'd be dead...win win.

jonjon418........ if the world should tarry thousands of more years should people put trust in other old books? like books on reproduction of the human body etc.? that makes no sense if something is "true" there is no time limit.
and sorry you feel your being tested, I feel God supplied me with a way of escape...glass half full/ glass half empty.

Parrot...good point , but to say to a supreme court Judge, I don't steal, or speed , or do drugs, or graffiti property but I won't pay taxes, so you have no right to jail me and if you do I won't like you...seem kind of silly huh.

Diane...now you I respect...
to make a false profession is useless dribble, because God know the heart, and anyone who thinks they can and be covered is in for a very rude awaking...thanks for your point very honest and interesting.

The head may seek God but it is the heart that finds Him.

Life, is change, so if there is an "afterlife" it would either:
1- Mean no more change (and thus no more life).
2- Be ever changing.
In the first case, i would rather "burn out than to fade away" an stalled eternity would no longer be worthy of being called an afterlife, would at best be an echo of life. Achilles in Hades said that being a King there was not as good as being a beggar in life, for hades is supposed to be the stalled kind of afterlife.
If afterlife is ever changing, well, hardly any explanation would be necessary or useful, you should keep living and learning as best as you could, and that is the kind of afterlife I would be interested in. I for one, would not mind to be wrong about the "Death is the end of self" that I currently believe in.

I'd look at him (whoever "him" is, since people believe in thousands of deities out there) and say the following:
"No, I did not believe in you. However, I tried my hardest to be a good person, help other people, be there for my friends and family, and do what was right. And after all, isn't that the most important thing?"
If he answers 'yes', then I guess I'll be OK.
If he answers 'no', then he's probably not a god that I would want to worship anyway.

I have already stated, If I am wrong I will willingly pay any penalties or consequences allocated to me for being wrong in my belief..
I don't think you can ask for any more than that..
Unless you are implying I should hypocritically profess a belief I do not hold, so "if" I am wrong, my butt is covered. Is that what you are implying?

No explanation of detail: if deity, then already informed of that, surely?
As I read it (the Christian) God has to give me points for honesty, and then condemn me to hell.
If it turns out to be some other deity I may be differently placed.

There isn't, Wilma dear.
But yeah, do you think if I said "Look, God, I was just using the excellent brain you gave me to deduce facts about the universe in a rational manner" - do you think He'd go for it? Do you think God would actually punish people for believing something because there's a mountain of hard evidence for it, rather than believing something because it was written in a book centuries ago? I'll put it this way - no God worthy of worship (in my opinion!) would submit mankind to this sort of cheap "test" of - what? his capacity for stupidity and disingenuity?

Life is filled with what ifs. We make our choices and we live with the consequences. What if Christians have squandered the gift of life by mindlessly adhering to meaningless theological dogma- that would surely be the ultimate sin.
