I'm 12 years old, and a few months ago I broke my tooth into three pieces eating cereal (I was eating it WAY too fast and it was a little hard). I got two parts out, and the new tooth already grew in...I pulled the third part really hard today (after a month or so) and it's just barely hanging there...the problem is that the adult tooth already grew in, and one part of the broken tooth is barely loose at all! I got it to stop bleeding, but it seems impossible to pull out. Please help! (and don't tell me to tie a string around it and then around a door, or any of that stuff...I usually make it really loose, and then pull it out with a tissue, but it's really hard with this one...)

I'm going to the Dentist on the 12th to get it pulled if I can't get it out...My mom says that it seems that I should be able to get it out by myself (from how loose it is), but that if I can't then the dentist will take it out. If I do get it out, then he's just going to check my teeth (maybe I'll also see the hygenist for cleaning). I would still like to get it out by myself though, because I'm going to have problems brushing, and the new tooth isn't getting cleaned properly (the loose part is blocking it, the new tooth is close to my tongue, while the broken part is leaning towards the side of my gum...the new tooth isn't going to push it any further out, that's why I might get it pulled.

I've now gotten the tooth out, but the gum underneath it is a very dark red color, and it's sorta like what's left after you lose a tooth (that jelly/soft red thing) but I'm not sure if it's infected or something...I'm going to look it up in some of my medical books, ask my mom and my grandma, but I'm not sure if I'll find anything so please help!

You may have to ask one of your parents to check this for you. It may be that you will just have to let the new tooth erupt further, which will push this piece out as it comes in. If its hurting (other than the pain you've caused while trying to remove it) you will probably need to let your parents or your dentist remove the piece. It will come out in time, just try to leave it alone for awhile and rinse several times a day with some really warm salt water for the soreness. Ask your parents for Motrin or Ibuprofen if you are having pain with this.

Take it easy with the hard cereal from now on! Maybe the tooth fairy will visit you three times for this one tooth! You are never too old to try when it comes to a stubborn, painful tooth! Hope I've been of some help and good luck!

If it's not coming out on its own it may be best to get your dentist to take it out for you. You don't want it to stay there if it is trapping bits of food or accumulating plaque.
