Because sitting in trees doesn't annoy people...And they enjoy sh*tting all over cars too much!

Ducks are birds too, but you don't see them sitting in trees either do you?

They have different feet to the 'perching birds' like sparrows and blackbirds that are designed to grasp branches with their feet. Pigeons are a different order of birds, they live in rocky areas like cliff faces in the wild. This is why you'll only really see them on wider, flatter surfaces - their feet are not designed to grip.

Ducks and swans and the like have webbed feet for swimming. You also get the 'wading birds' like grebes who have long legs and sort of half-webbed feet for wading while they look for their food.

Town pigeons are descended from rock doves. They normally perch on rocks and buildings are the next best thing. They can perch in trees, but they can get a better aim at you if they perch above your front door.

Pigeons have incredibly bad vision.....thats why they walk and bob their heads...constant focusing. Pigeons are more comfortable landing, perching and feeding on a flat surface, or constantly moving around large enough areas to feel safe. when it's time to bed down, a Pigeon likes small dark quarters with plenty of exit room. Fledgling pigeons are never seen, until they take flight for the first time. hence the old question..."Have you ever seen a baby pigeon?"

Pidgeons originally lived on cliffs and rock faces before we started taiming them and putting up buildings which they now think are cliffs. They will sit in trees (although these are often wood pidgeons) but generally thay are happier high up on a rock surface.

Pigeons lack the aptitude to perch themselves on timber. they are too fat and smash the branches whilst they land on them. This needless to say would not be conscious to sidewalks or ledges considering they are plenty greater stable.
