Depends on you aptitude for learning and how motivated you are. An average person who gets into engineering school will spend 5 or 6 hours per day in class/lab sessions and should spend a minimum of 1 hour on assignments for each. This adds up 10-12 hours per day. Plus, there are times when you are studying for exams that this total per day will be greater. And in addition, you will find it necessary to clear up those fuzzy areas of comprehension during the weekend. Get the picture? Takes determination and a will to succeed.

I probably study about 4 hours a day, and that's not including actual class and lab time. So in total an average of about 8 hours/day doin work for school. I'm just a freshman at FIT in Civil Engineering, but I bet it'll get much harder.

It really depends on the professor and course mats, and how regularly exams come. It's usually none during the regular weeks without exams and about 5 hours around exam periods.
