a man i've met is telling me stories that sound too big to be credible...navy ('61-'65) his m.o.s. was storekeeper, but he was trained in martial arts, so he was a bodyguard and driver for pierre salinger, mcnamara, and dean rusk (sp?). during his time stationed in hawaii. he also says that he deployed to viet nam after being trained as a navy frogman (but sometimes says he was on the first seal team). he says he was injured severely twice in viet nam and ended up in the naval hospital in california, where john wayne came by and visited him..earned a purple heart, but threw it away. after that, he became a cop, and the stories get much bigger after that. there are so many giant stories, i don't know what to believe.

If he was a real frogman, then this means he was a graduate of the Basic Underwater Demolition / Seals school. The UDT and SEAL teams have non frogman/seals in them to help them out, but they can not call themsevles SEALs or frogmen.

If he graduated from BUD/S then his DD214 will show it. Ask him what class he was in, who his swim buddy was. If he does not know these answers, then he is a fake, period.

SEALs and frogmen rarely brag about their exploits, but they will talk about them in casual conversation.

You can ask a real SEAL to look up your friends name in their database, this will tell you for sure.

Its obvious he's lying. Check the VA and see if they still have a record of his stay, also the Navy if he received a purple heart they'll have a copy of the orders, they could also tell if he served at all. Then you can bushwacke him with proof.

It's called a sea story. We all tell them to each other all the time, they're modern tall tales. Anyway we don't have mos's in the Navy, we have ratings.

What is there that you do not understand, the guy was just trying to impress you, and you have to give him credit for coming out with a bigger fish story.
