"O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish."

"Critical thinking," then, is the devil at work? So, the best alternative is NOT to think?

Try this, instead:

Matthew 5:15: Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.

God gave you a lighted lamp, a powerful brain that can be used to aid and advance the human condition. You can choose to avoid any kind of "devil's work" and hide your light under a bushel, or you can put your light on a stand and let it shineth unto the world.

The devil's work is done in people who apply their talents to defrauding, misleading and hurting others. God's work can be done in a strong brain that steps back, carefully analyzes a situation, then makes a wise choice that will avoid injury to others.

Put aside your paranoia. Christians are in no peril in the U.S.A. And they are in no peril from "critical thinking." A good Christian knows how to apply critical thinking in all situations, religious or secular.

It's about time you got your light onto that stand.

No. Orderly (logical) thinking complements the 'after effect of God's doing. It is the projection of it with man's limited sight that is the decision may be questionable. The logical (is that what you presently call 'critical' above?) thinkingis of God. Unfortunately many 'preachers' in the USA up to now, have not applied that concept either to tests for the Christians between the Holy Bible and scriptures (they are not the same).

Critical thinking is the objective of education. Reason is a requirement in choosing to believe or not to believe. How can any person make an informed choice without thought? Read Thomas Aquintus.

Religion is irrelevant in education.
Spirituality is relevant in education.

Spirituality can only be taught through the expansion of the heart. Allowing the heart to blossom and allowing the fragarance contained within to reach God!

Man should consider teaching the young and
impressionable "How to Think", not "What to Think".

This is how "True Wisdom" is developed within man.
Soloman is a wonderful example of this.

Not necessarily. Certainly everything that is good can be taken over and twisted by Satan and the world. Critical thinking in and of itself is a very good thing. God actually calls us to be critical thinkers--to examine ourselves, to be on the lookout for false prophets, to examine the Scriptures to see whether or not what someone is teaching is true.

I often teach critical thinking classes and challenge my students to examine ALL types of thinking. This often leads to the challenge of many ideas that our culture has accepted as true without analyzing carefully. Challenging that thinking and holding it up to the TRUTH is a very good thing.

You don't have to check your mind at the door to have faith and truly believe and follow God.

It's an anti-Fundamentalist-robot movement. (Fundamentalism can be of any religion.) I know Christians that think critically very well. I know anti-Christians that couldn't figure out how to find their backsides in a dark closet with a flashlight, map, compass, and the national guard.

Hey Christian criticism is great. If not for it all those people wouldn't have quit and forced Christians to be more tolerant. If Christianity wouldn't have been criticizes then woman would still have to were those clothing around them. Blacks would still be slaves, etc. Criticism is a good thing.

No, it is not. These things must be taught within the confines of the religious setting and not in public schools. Critical thinking is only one of the essential skills we must learn to exist in todays world...and that should be taught in schools.

What is wrong with critical thinking? Without it we'd all be a bunch of numb nuts wandering around with no real ability to choose wisely whatever the choice may be.

Are you aware that many people don't realise you are not a christian ? Its a cunning way to make it look stupid I suppose, but not very honest of you. Its like me expressing the attitudes of Mao or Stalin, pretending to be a serious follower of atheism.

Critical thinking: anything that helps you think well is a good idea. (Have you read Machiavelli? )
