I don't think this is possible. Even if we keep thing like the are I have read that the earth will still get warmer.
The problem is there a lot more countries adding to Global warming.
To stop Global warming will take years.
First we need to control the CO2 levels.
To reduce co2 levels I mean we convert things like power plants and cars to better things that did not cause co2 gases.
Then we try and find a way to reduce them.
Then try to introduce more trees and try to regrow a rain forest.
Then wait a few years and check the C02 levels in or atmosphere.
Then wait a few more year to see if it will reduce global warming.

I dont drive any where (i dont own a car).
I bike - and promote biking.

i am a member of many local groups that are concerned with environmental issues (particularly, global warming).
I turn off my computer when ever i can.
I dont watch TV.
i have all CFL light bulbs in my house.
I use a push lawn mower and a broom.
i dont consume a bunch of STUFF.
I recycle everything i can.
I vote GREEN PARTY.
I get all my Paper from the universities recycle bins (many printers only use one side a paper page... THERE ARE 2 SIDES!!!)
I plant PLANTS to suck up CO2
I unplug STUFF when I'm not using it
Don't us AC in the summer (it gets hot here too)
Every time i go anywhere i bring a back pack... I NEVER USE PLASTIC BAGS FROM STORES
Im studying Geo. so i can get a job stopping global warming.

Nut'n'honey.
Here's how I am going green~~I print my targets with GREEN ink instead of traditional black. That CONSERVES black ink.
Nobody, or 1,000,000,000,000 nobodies, can stop, change, or "fix" nature. It's futile and wasteful (of time, effort, and money) to try. You can try to reduce your electric BILL, but the power co.s still make the same amounts of electricity. You can do other things, but all that does is feed your egos and makes you feel better, but really accomplishes nothing positive.
"Global warming" is nothing to worry about. It's just like the 'panic' about the "new ice age" back in the '70s. That was just as false and nobody froze to death because of it. Nobody will die from so-called "global warming" either. So relax, go on with life, and quit worrying about the paranoid delusions of quacks and dumb clucks. It's not called "junk science" for nothing. algorey is laughing at you all the way to the bank!

Each day I do the 'small' things - turning off electrical appliances when not needed, using CFL bulbs, walking, cycling or running short distances instead of driving etc. I'll include more details about what each of us can do when I get to answer one of your other questions.

One thing we did last year was to plant a whole load of trees. A freind of mine is a doctor who used to work in Africa, last year we went to help out at some of the hospitals he'd worked at and whilst in Africa we involved the local communities in a tree planting project. Altogether we planted 50,000 trees, these should remove about 150,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere which means that both our families have gone carbon negative for life.

One of the locations we planted at was near Tamale in Ghana, West Africa (did you know your name was the same as that of a Ghanaian town - you probably did, and it's very hot there so you have an appropriate name).

No environmental groups seem to be addressing this issue. Even conservationists don't want to talk about it. I guess they all want to do conservation at work but not change their habits enough at home to make a difference. The raising of cattle causes more global warming than all of the car emmissions on the planet.
Over 80% of the dry tropical forests from northern Costa Rica to Mexico have been cut down. Areas of this size and larger have been cut down throughout the world including the Amazon, Indonesia, the Congo and other rain forests. The temperature after removing the rain forest has risen dramatically in these large tracts of land. The weather pattern also changes from this deforestation in each locality and they become drier. When these huge areas have their trees removed, erosion dumps millions of tons of sediment into the rivers that flow into the oceans. This sediment slowly suffocates the polyps of the precious coral reefs in the tropics.
What is the main reason for cutting these rain forests down? The main reason is to make room to raise cattle, not logging as many people think. With logging they generally cut down large hardwoods. To raise cow meat they cut down everything. In Central America much of the beef is exported to the United States. What can the average person do? eat soy, legumes and nuts as a protein source. This is a better way to practice sustainability. If the beef is grown in the United States sorry that isn't sustainable either. A person who eats cow meat (beef) as their main protein source requires about 20 acres of land each year and over 2000 gallons of precious water to raise that steer for protein. That is not sustainability. A person eating soy for their main source of protein only requires one acre of land and about 40 gallons of water each year to grow it. Also, soy doesn't add millions of tons of methane gas each year to our atmosphere. it actually absorbs co2. cows do produce over 100 million tons of global warming methane gas in the U.S. alone. Cattle excrement also is adding to major pollution problems in our water systems today. Stop eating beef! Or if you absolutely can't stop eating beef, cut back to once a week or once a month. if you must eat a meat chicken is much less destructive to the environment than beef, here in the tropics. Besides, refraining from eating beef is healthier in the long run.
If you want to take responsibility in helping save our planet from global warming, deforestation of the rain forests, dying coral reefs there are many other eating alternatives. please, eat to live, don't live to eat.
For our children's sake and the sake of the rain forests, coral reefs and the entire planet we need to step up and do something other than practice over indulgence. Cavemen had to hunt to get their protein and that was ok. Then we started raising animals to get our protein and that was needed. Now we know how to get all of the protein we need from plants. So it is time to evolve another step and stop the senseless cruelty to raising animals for food and also help control global warming and its effects at the same time.
