The MOST important thing that Jesus did for us was die for our sins to give us the gift of everlasting life.

He did rise from the dead but rising from the dead did not open the gates of heaven for us, dying for our sins did. The crucifix in no way denies the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the MOST important point in all of history.

The crucifix reminds us of this moment.

The following Scriptures even suggest that Jesus wants us to lift up his image:

Numbers 21:8-9 states: And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if anyone who has been bitten looks at it, he will recover." Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered.

And in John 3:14-15, Jesus says in correlation: "And just as Moses lifted up the [image of a] serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

With love in Christ.

"Altars" are common in religious ceremonies. In Catholicism, the Altar is a table where the priest consecrates Eucharistic bread and wine, transforming it into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

The Crucifix is a depiction of the execution of Jesus Christ at the hands of the Romans and Jewish conspirators.

Christianity's use of altars goes back to the religion's Jewish roots. Christians believe Jesus to be God incarnate; one Being that is 100% human and 100% God.

His death upon the croos, prophecized since Old Testament times, opened the Gates of Heaven to the Righteous, thus defeating death.

The theology that goes into the Crucifixion of Christ is DEEP. I have provided an over-simplified explanation. I hope not to have confused you in over-simplifying it too much.

NO there is no pagan human sacrifice on the Alter of a Catholic Church. The Cross is our remembrance that our Lord Jesus Christ our Savior died on the Cross for our Salvation.
The mass is a memorial of his death and Resurrection. With His Resurrection from Death we are saved. We believe He will come again to judge the living and the death and we await his coming.
Amen

It is a representation of Jesus' death on the cross. Nothing else. The altar is the table where the bread and wine are consecrated much as Christ used at the Last Supper.

Altars were built by Abraham everywhere he went. Judaism used them throughout its history. Human sacrifice? Christ was both human and God. The transubstantiation is the perpetual sacrifice. The altar is the cross.

it does get confusing, the catholic church seems to rely on many pagan practices.. their altar comes closer to reminding me of satanic rituals... they boarder voodoo.. the offensive part is their habit of condemning cultures that practice it without church permission as if they are trying to monopolize the spirit of earth... I don't know if you ever noticed but from that church sin only means not with the church's blessing... they forgive themselves but we are so not forgiven that they would murder us... your question just made me think...
