Not long ago I took my dad flying, and we were in a cessna 152. I weigh 230, and my dad weighs 240. Well when we went flying, everything was ok with the weight, the airplane flew beautifully. but i am doing the weight and balance and for the 150, and it says that the plane is137 pounds over weight. So what is wrong, b/c the 150, and 152 are pretty much the same thing.

Every flight W&B should be calculated for the airplane you're actually flying. That's #1.

Second, you can be overweight without being out of balance. Though you might not die from over-grossing (in fact you probably won't), if you fly overweight, you're breaking the law and over-stressing the airplane; eventually (if not immediately), that can cause a failure, and you don't want to be responsible for killing somebody else, either.

The gross weight for a 152 is 1670 pounds. Empty weight is 1100 pounds. Add 540 pounds of people and you can only have 30 pounds of fuel.
The 150 has a max weight of 1600 and an empty weight of 1111. Add 540 pounds of people and you cannot have any fuel and you will be overweight by 51 pounds.

Everything I can find shows the 150 with a larger payload than a 152. In either one, the two of you will put it overweight with full fuel.

when doing your math remember that when gauging your fuel use pounds not gallons that is where your overweight comes from in most instances.
plain weight + pilot and pax weight + carry on weight + fuel weight = correct weight ! so long as you remember to use pounds for fuel not gallons .
