Books by Max Lucado are excellent read. He is a great communicator of spiritual truths.
"The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren is also easy to read and very life-challenging.
Heavier in good theology teaching are books by John MacArthur.
But there is nothing as illuminating as the Bible itself. The more you read it, the more you'll understand. In fact the Bible is the "living word" of God and you can read it over and over again and find new truths about God, things to apply to your life etc. Just make sure you pray before you read it, because the Gof wants to explain it to you and it has to be sprititually discerned. For starters read an easy version like "The Living Bible" by Tyndale Publishers or the New International Version translation.

'As illuminating as the Bible'; I do not presently think such a book exist. However,I will offer this idea when reading the scriptures; discern the difference between scriptures and the Bible currently. Some additions are currently in most Bibles that contradict scriptures.

The Book of Mormon, although Many books can be as illuminating if you have the spirit with you and are listening for guidance as you read. The most important messag in the Bible and Book of Mormon is who Jesus is.

Any Donald Duck comic book will do. It will, by its very existance, prove that ducks can talk and that they wear sailor suits without pants. Once you accept these realities, you will discover immediatley the peace and joy found only through a personal relationship with The Duck.

The Bible, God's inspired Word to man, is LIVING and ACTIVE, and sharper than any two-edged sword.
