"Boogie Chillen" first charted in 1948. The next year The Hook charted with "Crawlin' King Snake" and"Hobo Blues. "I'm In The Mood" came shortly after, in 1951. Demon Records has a compilation of his 1948-1952 hits called "Detroit Lion".....it might be hard to find, but it's worth searching for.

I think John Lee has to be up there. there were so many other great singers and players at the time tho its hard to pick. personally, I like Son House, Willie Johnson, Sonny Terry. More recently I like Jack White's take on the blues. I'd even consider Seasick Steve as a good blues man. I like my blues simple.

FYI, although Hooker was originally from Mississippi, he first recorded after he moved to Detroit.
