Dale Jr got a 100 point deduction for illegal mounting brackets on the COT. If he does make the chase, which he probably will, does the points deduction really effect him when he's in the chase?
The points automatically restart, dont they?

wait i thought they changed the chase format. now all the top 12 drivers start with the same amount of points. its all even now. however, they get bonus points for how many races they have one this year. which means if he can be 12th in points and win more races than any of the top 12 he would lead the points when the chase starts. i might be a little off on this but i know they get like 10 bonus points for every win added when the points reset. jr will make the chase and i think hel finish in the top 5 at the end of the year.

Get your faith together, Junior Fan, "Murder will out," even in an obvious accidental event like the brackets issue. Not sure if the points restart or not as there have been announcements containing both yes and no. Junior really did have a tough week and sometimes people get so screwed by undeserved karma it gets difficult to believe anything but pomp and circumstancial evidence. He or someone on his crew made a mistake from which a volcano erupted from a "mounting on a molehill." Have followed both Senior and Junior through the years and never had a reason to question the sportsmanship or basic integrity of either driver, nor do I think it was anything but an accident or a nasty run of bad luck. That hundred point deduction was bloody well vindictive on the part of NASCAR, but Junior appears more or less to be taking it in stride and you can be sure check and doublecheck has more than likely advanced to triplecheck.

If he makes the chase, which right now he has some points to make up then the points wont matter. But as you can see the deduction had a devastating affect on him making the chase, just by losing positions, but we still have a lot of races to go. Whats going to kill him in the chase is the lack of wins, right now if the season continues to be dominated by Jeff Gordon, and Jimmy Johnson, the chase will be a two way race between both those drivers when it begins, becuase they will have to many bonus points from victories at the start of the chase for any body to make a big run at them.

Losing 100 points is huge; it is like missing an entire race. Should he make the Chase, yes the points will reset and this will not affect him then; but it could affect him right now and his chances of getting into the Chase.

He is 14th in the points right now and nearly 60 points out of the Chase. We haven't hit the half way point yet, so there is still plenty of racing left till the Chase for him to make that ground up.

Wow, the 100 points ABSOLUTELY make a big difference. He went from being in the 12th position in points to 14th from the 100 pt loss already. The penalty matters in 2 ways, first because it makes it that much harder for him to qualify for it and 2nd because every position is 5 points when you get into the chase. In 2004 Jimmie Johnson lost to Kurt Busch by 8 points. Why do you think they are trying so hard to lead a lap? All those extra bonus points are a huge benefit. I am not quite sure why you think "he probably will" make the chase either. He has struggled so far and this recent penalty will make it that much tougher.

If he make the chase the 100 point penalty really won't affect him, all 12 drivers are set with 5500 points plus an additional 10 points per win in the first 26 races. The same applys to Kenseth for his 50 point penalty from Daytona.

yes, the 100 point deduction really makes an impact. And I'm not even sure he will make the chase, I hope he does. And it doesn't start over, whoever is in first has more points then the person in second, and so forth. 5 points is huge when you only race 10 races. I think one year 1st through 3rd were only separated by 9 points. I think that was the year kenseth won it, and Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Gordon finished third.....

100 points is a huge difference, trust me.

I believe that the point deduction was harsh, although I am not a Jr fan. The point chase was very close last year, so I feel that he will be unable to regain enough points to be in the chase. That's to bad for his fan base and the sport.

a real fan keeps to be together with his driving force via the two the forged and the undesirable years. I continually enjoyed bill Elliott and Terry Labonte one 300 and sixty 5 days they win lots of race the subsequent 300 and sixty 5 days conflict mightily. provide Jr. time he will turn it around. in simple terms look at Jeff Gordon final 300 and sixty 5 days a catastrophe this 300 and sixty 5 days precise 5 motor vehicle a week.

It'll only affect him trying to get into the chase. If he gets in, it won't matter. The chase format has changed. There are no 5 point increments for each position. Now the twelve chase drivers all get their points set to, I think, 5000 and they get 10 points for each of their regular season wins. So if the chase started right now Jimmie would be leading with 5040, then Jeff with 5030, and so on. So no, it wouldn't affect him in the chase.
