Okay, if I read a bible, which version does everyone recommend? Because I'm really not good with long repetitive stuff that drags on for pages. And I'm an atheist, and have no desire to convert to christianity, so stop drooling over the thought of getting another brownie point with the lord. I just thought I might read it for the entertainment value.

If your purpose was to have some Biblical knowledge that would be a good base line, then the King James version has to be the winner. If we look at the structures of all other versions out there, they are still dictated in terms of the order of the books and what is inside by the KJV. Just make sure that whatever edition you get, it has a good collection of annotated footnotes and possibly a Bible dictionary and maps as part of the bound work.

As for avoiding things that go on long and repetitive, then it's better for you to find videos that just deal with stories from the Bible. There are some chapters in there that deal with geneaology, so reading 30 some verses of "X begat Y, who begat Z" all in a row can be somewhat painful. I know I plowed through those things myself by using some speed reading techniques but still took effort.

However, if you have an architect's background, I would recommend reading through the Exodus chapters that details the measurements of the tabernacle in the wilderness. Have a paper and pencil handy as you take notes of the dimensions and such of that tabernacle. That may provide interesting insight just in terms of structures.

As for "converting" you, just follow your conscience on that one. I've got others who have a greater desire for help from me, so I'll worry more about them. If you seek me out via email, then we'll talk. But nothing outside of this before that.

Thanks for letting me share.

Sincerely,
Alvin R.

Probably the NIV(new international version) because it is one of the easiest to understand. I would recommend getting a bible that has the words of Christ in red lettering. I would suggest you also start with the new testament as since Christ's birth, crucifixion and resurrection, the religious law were changed as they were written in the old testament. Because we now have a savior with whom to seek forgiveness. I commend you on at least finding out for yourself whether for entertainment value or not, but the brownie point part wasnt really necessary as none of us christians feel that way. I hope you find the truth for yourself whatever that may be.

The New American Standard is fine...
If you like Shakespeare, then I'd go with the King James, or even the New King James.
There is some really odd language in the New International Version, so I wouldn't recommend that one...

I understand different new testomony stuff might want to were also. i recognize Y'Shua's (in accordance to different writings from the time, that likely become Jesus’ actual call) words were written later with the help of others. He did not write some thing. I study presently that become actual about the Quran. The words are Muhammad's yet he did not write them down. some different person did later. As I talked about fairly some human beings flow with the help of fairly some difficulty attempting to instruct each be conscious is actual and from God. it really is glaring to me plenty is legends and fabricated to impression the Hebrews and, later, the Jewish cult that over some centuries more advantageous into Christianity. a pair examples are the memories of Samson and pastime. i have self assurance they're only training about marriage regulations and loyalty to God. contained in the Quran, there are issues i hit upon very smart, like the caution about vengeance; yet there are some issues that i think would serve typically Muhammad. One is his clarification to his better halves and yet another is struggling with to the demise for Islam. I learn religions, and different philosophies, and both books are sturdy representations of cultures' perspectives of themselves, their international, God and the kinfolk contributors between those. Too many human beings attempt to positioned more advantageous into them than is in there. it extremely is the position the difficulty starts. in case you elect to ascertain about God, close the books and go searching you. he's everywhere outdoors the books. incredibly little of him is in there.

In that case just get the bible on dvd or cd and you can just listen to it. There is a paper back version type some one did years ago that did it in a condensed reader digest type format. is not a true bible but would give you the high lights and such.

I would try the King James version, but start in the book of John in the NT. The KJV is what the Bible that was before men started taking things out and changing it to say what they wanted instead of what God said.

Try either New American Bible or the Revised Standard Version. They're the most accurate.

The NIV (New International Version) is not a perfect translation...but is easy on the eyes and brain for the uninitiated...

The brownie points mean very little to us....We honestly are concerned about you...I really mean it....however misguided you may view me to be.....
