Are there differences in firewires?

i just got a Sony 1080i HDV camera so I want to know what would work best.

There are 4 - 4 pin, 4 - 6 pin, 6 - 6 pin, 6 - 9 pin and 9 - 9 pin FW cables, but I don't know if there is a 4 - 9 pin.
6 pin is FW 400 and 9 pin is FW 800. FW 800 is supposedly faster than 400.
The FW port on your computer will show you which cable you will need for transferring to footage, usually a 4 - 4 pin or 4 - 6 pin.
