Take the tube on the Piccadilly Line and get of at Wood Green, then walk down Turnpike Lane and Green Lanes, as far as Manor House.
Or take the Victoria line south, and get off at Brixton. This is rather like Britain's answer to Cape Town; a vital and populous quarter, teeming with colour and festivity.
