Peter Pan got recalled for salmonella contamination due to a leaky sealing or something in the factory which provided an amount of moisture which allowed for the salmonella bacteria to mass produce (bacteria LOVE moisture!), so it had nothing to do with the peanuts or anything and Peter Pan peanut butter and Jif are not manufactured in the same place, so Jif is safe.
^ I have a big thing for peanut butter so I had to research it when it first got recalled
Buttttt I did read Peter Pan will be back on shelves in July, and I am so excited. Peter Pan Whipped Peanut Butter is the best.

Jif is OK. It always was. It was only the Peter Pan, and a generic brand that got recalled, and it's not even back on the shelves yet. Any peanut butter on the shelves is OK to buy. I found I didn't like the Jif, though. It has an "earthy" taste that Peter Pan didn't have so the last time, I got the Kroger store brand and I like it better. I don't know if good old Peter Pan will EVER come back at this point.

It was actually the ConAgra produsts which make Peter Pan and Walmart brand Peanut Butter. Though it was only the pb with a certain product code on the lid. Check out www.conagra.com for more info. They are offering a rebate if you purchased this pb.
All pb is now safe to buy, the problem was remedied. JIF was always and still is safe to eat.
Thx

It should be on the top or side of the lid. If there is no code on the lid, this probably means it was processed somewhere other than ConAgra (Wal-Mart uses several different companies to make the same product). However, it's a jar of peanut butter - when in doubt, throw it out.
