I had a male beagle for 11 years! They are delightful. Very curious, very social, happy and loyal. Alike Jack Russells, they do need a lot of companionship and will get into trouble (digging, especially) when left alone too long. They will only eat everything in sight if they are bored. Never give a puppy old shoes or stuffed animals (choking hazards too) as toys to chew as they will eat every shoe in your house that they can find - leather especially. Beagles like the water and they are great beach dogs. Take him out in public whenever you can as they are very social and love those opportunities.

I have a Beagle, Snoopy, and he is a great shortstop, ask Charlie Brown.
He is a very mellow dog, always late for a nap.
He is so cute with the long ears and big brown eyes, I call him "Sad Sack".
They are very energetic dogs and need to get a lot of exercise. I have two other dogs, a Rattie and a Pit, so they chase each other around and take care of that. You don't want to know what is like to walk three dogs.
Beagles are very easy keepers. Which means they will eat and eat and eat. If you are not careful they will get fat in a minute. Keep close tabs on feeding him.
Never let him off on his own. Being a hound with a very keen since of smell he will pick up a sent and follow it to the ends of the earth, then not be able to find his way home.
Have fun with your new pup. You picked a great dog.

beagles are very pack oriented animals. they're used to having large numbers around so if it's just you and the dog if you're gone a lot the dog might develope separation anxiety.
Beagles are known to be howlers but can easily be trained not to bark. These dogs are not particularly good watch dogs and would rather run up to a burglar with a wagging tail and attack it with licks. Because they were bred to be hunting dogs they need to be kept busy or they might get fat.
a good game of fetch or hide and seek is always good for these dogs. let your dog use it's hunting skills by hiding toys and treats for it to find. These dogs can also be diggers so try and correct this early on.
Having a fenced in yard in best for these dogs but if you don't have that then a good walk will still make your pup happy. good luck

Hi there. Beagles are wonderful little dogs! They are very food oriented so they will learn tricks quickly with treats. Be sure not to give them too much people food as they will quickly learn not to eat their own food. They are loyal and very eager to please. They get along tremendously with other dogs and have a huge heart.
As the beagle is a scent hound, he likes nothing more than to put his nose to the ground and go. Therefore, never let your beagle loose in an unfenced area no matter how obedient he is! He must always be leashed or fenced in.
Enjoy your new friend!

i think you should do some research on the website before getting a dog since you are asking such a question. go to google or yahoo and type characteristics of a beagle. its disgusting to have a ignorant person buy a dog thinking that keeping one is easy. its a lifetime commitment, so read up well, talk to pet owners if you know any of them then get one. adopt one if possible.
and they DON'T EAT ANYTHING, dogs are like babies, need to be well fed and taken of, you don't just throw anything to them and expect them to eat it.
