DO NOT WORRY ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU WEIGH! I'm sick of hearing people say "I want to weigh such-and-such" People are different and muscle weighs more than fat. I am six feet tall and 160 pounds and I have a friend who has almost identical measurements around the waist, chest, arms, and legs but is 130. I weigh more but am in better shape. Muscle is denser and tighter and more attractive but weighs more. All weight is is how much Earth pulls on you. It doesn't matter. Don't drink soda and whatever workout you do, do consistently. This will make you healthier. Maybe not lighter, but healthier.

Hey, we're in the same boat! (I'm using hubby's email-I'm a woman, not a guy, lol)
Go to caloriesperhour.com and use the activity calculator to figure out how many calories you'll burn by swimming. You may want to add some weightlifting exercises and cardio, too, to speed fat loss and retain muscle mass. (Muscle burns more calories, so muscle is a GOOOD thing, lol.)
As for the food issue-don't avoid any food! Just cut your portion sizes. I'm using the 1200 calorie diabetic diet (the exchange list diet) because I'm diabetic-its a pain in the butt at first, but once you figure it out and get used to trading off exchanges, you'll drop a LOT of weight. I recommend using the exchange list diet as a "six-meals-a-day" plan, though, because if you just have three meals a day, you'll feel like you're starving. Just so ya know, the last time I did this diet, I was losing five pounds a week while pregnant (under a doctor's supervision!), so, yeah, it works.
Oh, and you can make the diet easier to follow by eating large amounts of salads and steamed veggies, using higher-fiber foods (wheat bread instead of white, etc), and adding a small amount of fat to every meal (peanut butter, olive oil, nuts, etc). The fat will help the carbs digest slower, the fiber will make you feel a little more full, and the veggies are just "filler material" so you won't feel like you're going to die the first few days, lol.

If you want to lose weight and tone up, swimming is the best exercise for you. I'd say that you would need to swim at a moderate pace at least 30 minutes 5 days a week.

In order to lose weight, I would just cut your caloric and fat intake. I would eat no more than 1500 calories per day and no more than 25 grams of fat.

Good luck to you! And always remember, you are a great weight for your height. Don't be too hard on yourself.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

People hold bodyfat in different places, and unfortunately there is no such thing as spot reduction.
You can do thermogenics to speed up the process. In my experience, the T Burn Fat Attack Combo is the best. You can get it here www.superfitnutrition.com
Good luck!
