do you want an easy answer, to avoid calorie-counting? COMPLETELY cut out bread, cereal, pasta, sodas, and anything sweet. that alas includes some sugary fruits. leave rice, oatmeal, and potatoes for your carbs so you can have normal BMs. fill up on veggies - in moderation, eggs, meat, fish. you will lose weight and a lot, especially if you exercise at the same time.

the above is a variation of Atkins but is easy to maintain. a much harder one - but more wiehgt loss - involves a lot of boiled cauliflower and carrots, and no potatoes, minimal rice, and only fish and lean pork. HARD to maintain.

good luck!

A good rule of thumb is to take your bodyweight, multiply it by 10-12, and that is a range of calories to eat
Check out Body for life, it is a good program, because it addresses the 3 major components to losing weight
Weight training, cardio, and diet
You may also want to try a thermogenic like the T Burn Combo (www.superfitnutrition.com) It isn't a cure all, but it does help, and most people trying to lose weight are looking for all the help they can get.

I bought a rowing machine. It's great for exercise when it's raining. Try rowing steadily for long distances to lose weight.
As far as the number of calories you need goes - this is a tough one. If you are doing more exercise than before, your appetite will probably increase and you will have to be very self-disciplined to restrict yourself to the amount you currently eat. If you can stick to that amount and eat healthily, you should lose weight.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Women don't need 2000 calories. Wow. Women only need between 1200 and 1700, depending on height and muscle mass.

A good diet followed by a rigourous cardio exercise, preverably jogging wich burns up to 536 calories, or in the case of leg ijuries swimming is the best all over cardio excercise.

I would recommend cardio along with the rowing machine. It only works your arms and back optimally. Less than 2000 calories and burning 500 calories a day would be a good start.
