Some females just aren't cut out to be mothers. There could be other reasons she will not rear this litter also. Your vet would be of great help. They do sell milk replacer for puppies with collostrum. If they will nurse from a bottle, you are blessed and will need your son's help keeping these puppies alive. They need to be fed every 2 hours. With 8 of them, wow, it's going to pretty much be around the clock. If they will not nurse from a bottle, your vet will have to show you how to tube feed them. This is (or can be) difficult and sometimes dangerous, because if you can run the tube into the lungs instead of the stomach, so if you need to go that route, make sure you fully understand how to do it before you leave the vet's office. If the mother has milk, while you are bottle feeding, I would recommend getting your son to sit with her while some of the pups nurse. Some of momma's milk is better than none! Make your son step up and take some responsibility for these pups too!

I assume you're asking at what age they need their shots. If so, you should call your vet's office as not all vets like to give 1st shots at the same age. Some prefer 6 weeks, some like to wait until 8 weeks. But you should be contacting the vet re worming the puppies before then, anyway.

I have taken every pup that I have gotten to the vet in a day or two. I want to know if they are healthy or I am going to have any concerns to worry about. That is when I make the appointment to bring them back for shots an such.

well, that's sorta an oxymoron because what age should i take a newborn, theres not a different age if its a newborn, a newborn is a newborn and you should take them right away if there sick other than that, about five to seven weeks

It depends on what breed you have. If it and the mother are healthy the first vet visit shoul be at weaning time. If your puppies are to have their tales and dewclaws cut PLEASE, do it when they are between 3 and 5 DAYS old. They don't have the feelings as when they are older.

6 months should be ok to do so. The puppy and Vet will have a fresh start together and you will too.

as soon as it is fully weaned-at around 8 weeks/2 months. it is not advisable to touch the pup too much if they are newly born as that would leave human scent on the pup and make the mum reject nursing the pup. =)
