First thing you need to do is apply for a patent. Otherwise I guarantee that someone will steal it from you. And if you are working as an engineer for some company, they may already own the patent rights since you work for the company. You need to check you employment contract to confirm that.

Find some reputable business people to pitch it to. Don't give your ideas away to just anyone or they could steal your "invention" and make money from it when it could or should be rightfully yours

Get real. If you talk to any newspaper they'll fall over themselves to promote you.
There's just one drawback: You'll have to prove that it works.
