Guilt and shame are control-mechanisms. Fear is another primary tool, particularly with the prospect of either God's wrath or the eternal damnation of Hell if one does not obey. Keeps one devout, as having a little too much fun in Life makes fundamentalists uneasy.

Christianity doesn't hold guilt, people do. We all live with guilt. Some Christians try to make others feel guilty in order to get saved, but that's not how Jesus's ministry worked. God says you dont have to feel guilty, and he doesn't want you to feel that way. If we go to him, our guilt will be gone, and that's the biggest load taken off your shoulders! It literally just feels like a bunch of weight has come off of you, and you can finally breath, even if you didn't realize you were having trouble breathing. All we have to do is ask.

The truth is that human heart holds guilt at the core, but God didn't make us that way. We turned away from him and were sentenced to eternity in Hell if we don't plead guilty and ask for forgiveness like we do before a judge because God is the eternal judge of life and death.

God wants us to be as far away from guilt and sin as he can take us, but God gave us the chose, we have to deice to go to safety.

Christianity doesn hold guilt as its core. The core of christianity is the acceptance that Christ is the Son of God and following Christ's teachings. It is the love for all humankind regardless of race, religion, culture, etc. It is manmade "religious" groups that hold guilt as the core and that is not true christianity.

You are misinformed. Christianity is not about guilt. It's about recognizing that we are not God and that we need Him. Those who constantly hold the sinful nature of man over the Christian's head as a means of control and condemnation are also misinformed. Christians do not try to guilt people into anything.

I don't think Christianity holds guilt, at it's core. When we become saved, we are saved. We just know, within ourselves, that there are things we should not do, and we change them.
It's like someone told me, once, smoking won't send you to Hell, you'll just go to Heaven, sooner.

It doesn't. It holds forgiveness and acceptance at its core. You don't have to do anything to be forgiven. That is what is so powerful about it. If someone is trying to push guilt onto you, you are in the wrong place and should feel free to leave.

Actually it's quite the opposite! There's NO condemnation to those in Christ, and he's cast our sins as far as the east in from the west. True love keeps no record of wrongs.
I am a Christian and I have no guilt whatsoever, no need!!
The devil on the flip side, is called "the old accuser"... Revelation 12: 10, “for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”
The devil is the one that dangles our sin in front of us trying to cause us to question our faith and our forgiveness. God assures us that he keeps no record of them, why should we??
Hope this helps.

Christianity does not hold guilt at its core, love is at the core of every Christian (it should be anyway). Guilt locks you into self-pity and depression. Christians are told to confess their sins and God will renew their lives and not be haunted by guilt.

It's a control mechanism: if you can make someone feel guilty, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want in order to earn forgiveness.

This is not to say that people should not feel guilty when they do something that really is wrong. But so many things which are not wrong (masturbation is the most obvious example) are condemned more because the church knows everyone does it, so everyone can be made to feel sinful, even if they are not hurting anyone. Many more things which are merely unwise (such as eating too much) are treated as sins (gluttony) for the same reason.
