Never been possessed "by" the Devil, but I possessed a devil once. Seriously, though, I understand that the symptoms are a headache and your cat will not stop hissing at you. Or is that the symptom of spending a weekend in south Alabama?

Sometimes you run a high fever. The devils that generally possess one are little microbes that make us sick.
I have heard that an evil spirit can sometimes literally take over another person's body, tho I believe this to be comparatively rare. Obsession is much more common, in which a spirit connects itself to a mortal human and influences them and even feeds off of them, parasitically, vampirically. But then so do the microbes.

Well if you believe the movies, the head turns 360 degrees, they spit green pea soup, they walk like a spider down the stairs, and they can make their bed shake. Oh, and they also might float above the covers.
Of course, this is all fiction. There's no such thing as possession.

Most of the time, the devil is disguised in apparently harmless, innocent forms. Anyone weak in the Holy Spirit will be vulnerable to attack. The way to know if you are dealing with possession is to observe the response when you call them out in the name of Jesus. Demons and the Devil tremble at the very name of Jesus.
"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." -- James 2:19 KJV

Emily Rose: Her possession was made into a movie. I saw the movie recently, and it will put the fear of God back into you. It really is an amazing thing how some demon can take your life over, your body over. Very scary, and real.

Yes. When someone acts and speaks in a way completely inconsistent with what you know of their kind and loving nature, you have to allow that it is at least possible they are having a demon attack. Help them to resist it by pointing out "this is not like you, my friend," and reminding them that you know them to be a good person.
