You know, codes like 187 for murder and 420 for somebody smoking marijuana? If not, can people please list police codes that they know of. Thanks.

I want to write a gansta rap song using a lot of police codes so it sounds like I'm from the hood. You know, like Dr. Dre says on The Chronic album when he goes, "Try to set me up for a 211, f--k around and get caught up in a 187."

See the site below for a listing of all the codes in the "Hundred Code"

The second link contains a list of the "Ten Code" such as the famous 10-4. They aren't used specifically by the police but I thought you might be interested in them also.

My department uses 10 codes. Some departments use straight codes like your examples of 187 and 420. Each county differs from another. Only a few states make the codes uniform for all departments.

Police codes vary from place to place and, sometimes, from department to department. Probably what most use in their lyrics are from the California Penal Code. These have little meaning to people from the rest of the nation.

"What's your 20?" means "Where are you?"

I don't know if that's police code or not, but I have heard it used on walkie talkies at my job and also when I volunteered with the Red Cross...
