I have a pitbull that I bought from a breeder with a good reputation. I took him to obediance school and researched every thing I could to train him well, I thought he was so sweet! Ealier today I was walking him and he saw this kid and just freaked out, I have no clue why! The kid was just walking and never even looked at me or the dog, my pit totally flipped out and yanked the leash out of my hand, before I knew it he was all over the kid :(. It took me and another guy all we had to pull him off, now the kid is in the hospital and the cops just called and said they are coming to get my dog. What should I do, I never though my dog would go from jekyll to Hyde just like that especially since I spent so much time training him :(

The onyl reason I ever bought a pitbull was because I heard they were sweet dogs and that their reputation was undeserved. I spent a LOT of time training mine, researched a good breeder, and did everything I could do....I can't beleive this happened :(

This is a perfect example of why no one should own a pit bull. You are legally responsible for the child's medical care and will no doubt be sued for amounts way beyond the medical bills. Your dog should and will be put down. If you're smart, you won't ever own another pit or any other vicious breed. You should have had better control of the dog, this is your fault.

Wow that's a tough one I have two pits myself. The first thing you have to look at is your state laws on viscous and dangerous animals. The next thing I can tell you is remember an animal has instinct always use caution when in public. I know to late. You have to prove his rabies shot is up to date and somehow home owners insurance or otherwise cover the cost of the injury. Why are the cops taking your dog? Is that the law is there a quarantine period? I'm not sure I understand that part if the dog tries to go after them you have no choice left. But ultimately everyone will give you an opinion however the choice is one only you can make. And the decision only you have to live with. Just remember anything could have triggered the reaction. you may never know I wish you luck with this one it's a scary thing but I would definitely be asking the police why and what their intentions are. Better to know than wonder. Just hang in their and try to find your local laws ASAP

Omg, i'm so sorry approximately this. i'm a pit bull mommy, so i understand in simple terms how loveable and enormous canines they are able to be. whether i think of my pit will in no way harm something interior the international, I nevertheless shop a muzzle on her exterior, just to place anybody round her comfy. i comprehend it is not precise, yet pits do no longer opt to be intimidated so as that they'd bypass after yet another canines actual if challenged, and would actual harm the different canines. you could attempt going to trial and chatting with the decide approximately according to hazard having him see a animal behavorist, and a vet (some canines to attack in the event that they are going into seizures or have brains tumors) and to have him on a muzzle in any respect circumstances. there is not any provides you yet you need to objective. according to hazard even get him fixed. My prays bypass out for you and your canines, and hopfully the boy makes an entire restoration. I dont understand what i might ever do if somebody threatened to take my female offspring faraway from me. sturdy success.

Start by contacting the breeder, let them know what happened, if a truly reputable breeder they will want to know, the purchase contact should have clause about temperament guarantee, and also they need to know because it impacts their breeding line, so they may choose to hire a behaviourist to assess the dog, and should be offering some assistance to you, something was not right with the dog. if the police get an order from a judge there is not much you can do then to prevent the police from seizing the dog so best to be co-operative(sorry), you also will need to talk to a lawyer right away.
I know you have a great deal of emotional attachment to the dog and spent a lot of time in training with him but trying yourself to save him from being put down is not in your best interest as from here on in you will never trust him, if the breeder wants to save him then be willing to sign the dog over to them so they can run test or get behaviourist access to the dog, if he was not up to date on his rabies shots then it is even more important to turn him over to the authorities , so that the child is not forced to endure rabies shots if not necessary
I am very sorry you are having to go thru this, sounds like you are a very responsible owner who at least tried to do everything right, you might have just happen to get a dog that was not mentally wired right, even dogs can suffer mental illnesses, but the true nature of the breed if bred correctly is not to be people agressive, my son has a bully mix and she is great with my grandchildren, I have had a shepherd and a cocker that I have had to put down because they were not wired right, spent quite a bit of money on a behaviourist/ vet testing to assess the dogs to make sure it was not behaviour or medical problem, I just happened to be a lot luckier I recognized signs things where not right with the dog before anyone got hurt, so in a very small way I know some of the pain your feeling. So don't let people tell you it is a breed thing any breed potentially has the risk of being born mentally unstable

Animal Control will come to confiscate your dog. He may or may not be quarentined, depending on what kind of vaccination records you have on him. Unfortunetly, you face the reality of having your dog put down. People generally don't give Pitts a second chance.
There's almost nothing to do at this point. I'm sorry, but this is the sad truth. If he had been a Lab, a spaniel, something else . . .but he's a Pitt Bull. And it seems people are only forgiving to the breeds that the media doesn't "love" so much. The breeds that humans didn't create to fight. (a fact I'v always found ironic, it was humans that made the breeds dubbed Pit Bulls. Now all we want to do is eradicate them for being the breeds those before us made)
Quite honestly, because of the media hype surrounding the "breed" your dog is, you should have never let your gaurd down. Maybe I'm assuming too much, but it sounds like that was what happened.
Check on the kid, talk with the parents. If you have any hope, it's with them. They may be understanding and it may get your Pit released. Don't push it too hard. And expect for them not to be. Talk with Animal Control, see if they put down Pit Bulls on first offenses. If not, go spend some time with your dog at their facility. Don't let him die alone, without you, if it comes to that.
If by chance he is released to you and you wish him to live -- always be on gaurd. Always expect. Sometimes, it's just something you have to do.

That is one of the consequences you have to live with owning this type of dog . But You know what? Most pit bull owners would not admit that their dog attacked someone. I am glad you came forward. It goes to show that that even the most trained pit can attack, that goes for any other breed also.
I am not sure what is going to happen to your dog. Some will be put down immediately and some do go back with their owner under strict circumstances.
Make sure you check in on the kid that got attacked, and tell the parents how sorry your are. Give the parents any info they might need.
If you do get your dog back you will have to decide if you want to take the chance of your dog attacking again.
Thank you so much for speaking up!

Unfortunately if your city has a BSL (Breed Specific Law ) your dog is doomed. As far as Animal Control and the police are concerned your dog just became a dangerous animal and in most cases will be euthanized especially if the child has serious injuries. I'm so very sorry this happened, but the law stems from the irresponsible owners (not saying that your not a responsible owner). You did your best and its just the unpredictability of the breed unfortunately

My nephew was severely mauled by a stray pit bull when he was just 10. Pits have their reputation for a reason. Your dog didn't go crazy....he went pit bull. I would think at the very least you will be responsible for all medical bills and possibly much more. My nephew had nightmares for years.

Unfotunately Pit Bulls have the Jekyll/Hyde personality problem. I know there are many reputable breeders out there that disagree with that statement, but every day we hear more and more regarding the unexplained attacks of Pit Bulls. I feel very sorry for you and your dog. There really is nothing that can "help" either of you. The courts will make you pay for all the medical bills. Your dog will be quarenteened to watch for rabies. Once that period runs out, he will be put down. Sorry to say it, but that's the standerd proceedure in cases like this.

I know how you feel. My dog did the same thing. He bit someone when they weren't doing anything. I think your dog was protecting you. We got a warning and if it happened again, then they would take him. We had to pay for the person's bite. If you really want him, try talking to the cop and seeing what u could do to keep him
