I got wasted for the first time at age 13. I had friends who would buy booze for us younger kids. This made it seem like no big deal. I could get ANYTHING I could ever want when I was in junior high school. Cocaine, weed, acid, booze, mushrooms and even crack. I passed on the crack of course!
Guess what? I didn't care to get it. I was not sheltered as a kid. It actually made me responsible when I got older because I had "been there, done that" and I wasn't exciting for me. I actually stopped drinking liquor for a couple years during high school. I drink casually now. Alcohol killed my father in January, so I know what it can do to people.
Let your brother try it, then make sure he knows how nasty it tastes. Tell him how it makes people look like idiots and is an expensive habit. It can do more damage to a person than many illegal drugs.
Again, I could've done any drugs, etc. as a youth, and @ 32 I simply choose none. (well a joint and a beer every so-often never killed anyone) sshhhhhhhhh

If i were you I woudn't teach him beacause it is really bad for you and your health. Also he can't drink because it would be underage drinking. Let him turn at least 21 years old or older. Dont even try to get him started on whisky. It can even kill him if he is to young. I woudn't teach him how to drink whisky. If you get caught you can go to jail, or even worse. So I woudnt try to get my younger brother that's 18 years old started on whisky. It can harm you a lot! So I am telling you don't even try, because you know what they say. Health is wealth!!!!!!!!!!

Why not??? I drank all the time whenI was 18. I was in the Army in Germany. I didnt drive drunk, I didn't get in any fights. The worst I did was sleep with several women I probally shouldn't have. Americans don't seem the know the value of moderation.

i think that's a rediculous question as you know an 18yr old is underage even in Canada you have to be 19 to be able to "legally" drink* I know kids of all ages drink which is sad but...and Secondly, I don't think anyone needs to be taught how to drink* I told my 19yr old nephew when he became of age..if you're going to drink, 1)eat before you drink 2) make sure you have arrangements of how to get home safely and 3) don't mix your drinks.(dont drink beer then start drinking hard liquor, or dont drink wine when drinking beer or hard liquor.. keep to the one drink you started with also drink some water inbetween your alcohol drinks* simmer down a bit so you can enjoy the night and not wake up with a hangover* Remember alcohol dehyrdrates you and if you drink too much, you can get alcohol poisioning which can kill you* Other than that be Safe* be a responsible , in moderation drinker..not guzzling them back like water.

Start him out with some mixed drinks. Crown and Coke, Whiskey Sour, etc. Once he gets used to the taste, try it with water and ice. Eventually, he'll be drinking it straight and make you proud. Just kidding. If he's going to drink, make him discover it himself. Don't encourage him.

Well, with apologies:
* in the house, for one! He's young ...
* do not 'chug a lug' it down .... whiskey is to be taken slowly.. a shot of whiskey in one gulp is a lot ...after all, whiskey is 'hard liquor'
* be observant of the affect it has ..that is his own 'reading'
* try it these ways:
..neat
..on ice
..as a whiskey sour
..as whiskey and water
..as Irish Coffee
Peace & Love

Put a shot in a glass of coke so he can get used to the taste, he shouldn't get it straight up first.

Your eighteen year old brother is too young to drink whiskey, if you are asking from the U.S. If you are asking from Europe, then perhaps you should ask another question: Why do I want to start my brother on a whiskey habit anyway?
