Reputable breeders do not place puppies until they are at least 12 weeks old. In the additional time they learn manners & bite inhibition from the litter.

this puppy needs to be fed 4 times a day with a late nite snack to keep its glucose levels from dropping. If they dip too much the puppy will go into seizures. California Natural or Canidae are good. Check out the holistic brands. Nothing from the grocery store.

There is a good chance the puppy doesn't know how to eat so you may have to put the kibble through a blender.

Purina anything is garbage & to suggest rawhides be given to any dog is just plain irresponsible.

do not take your puppy anywhere no allow visitors until after your puppy has had its last series of shots

First a puppy shouldn't be taken away from it's mother until 7-8 weeks but 8 weeks is best. First I would suggest if you can asking the person you got the pup from what she was on. If not a good quality puppy food. You may need to moisten it to start. First give her just the dry food and see if she can manage it if it looks like she's having trouble moisten the food. in about 3 days add a little dry food to the moistened, slowly reduce the moistened food and replace with the dry.
At 6 weeks old the pup should be started on vaccines.
They should get a set of four boosters by 4 months and tehn a rabies and then yearly check up. at 5 1/2-6 months teh pup should be fixed.
Good Luck with your new pup

That is a question you should have had an answer to before you brought it home. Six weeks is the standard for taking away from the mom. Ask the previous owner what it was eating before they gave it away. It should have been weaned and already eating puppy food before it was given/sold.
Be careful of the "tainted dog foods" Some is still out there. You may want to make your own dogfood. Also, chicken is not a good idea for humans or animals, as the same stuff that tainted the dog food was put into chicken feed, and through eating the chickens it is getting into humans and what/whomever is eating chickens.
Go for beef, pork, wild game etc. Do not let your puppy eat bones, or greasy foods. NEVER feed it chocolate, it is a poison to puppies.

Just give it a quality dry puppy food with real meat as the number none ingredient such as Purana one and plenty of water. Also it is still too young for any treats or people food but you can give it a raw hide if it is teething.

Also if it seem like it is having a hard time with just dry food add some hot water to the food and put it in the freezer to cool. after a few minutes it should be both cool enough to eat and slightly softened.

Also for those people saying that it needs milk replacer it dosent. Even though we wait till our dogs are 7 - 8 week before we even begin to start letting them go home they are pretty much done nursing by 5 weeks.

Your puppy is too young to be away from its mother. At this young age I would suggest getting some puppy milk replacement and offer it in a bowl assuming the puppy knows how to drink on it's own. Get a good quality puppy food and moisten it with the milk replacer. Only offer small amounts at a time because anything sitting after 15-20 minutes needs to be thrown away.

When I got my puppy she was 8 weeks old. She was already eating IAMS Smart Puppy food. It is in a yellow bag. I would add a little water to it for a couple of weeks so it makes it softer. She is now 16 weeks old and I have transitioned her to the Hill's Science Diet puppy food. It costs a little more than the IAMS but that is what most vets recommend.

6wks old pups are just right to be taken away from their mum. I bred poms and never had a problem with any of them being taken away at that age. You can feed the dog baby cereal till its tummy gets used to solid food, then switch over to the puppy mix hills brand. Its good always worked for me.

6 weeks old is too young to be taken away from it mother! But your puppy should be on good quality puppy food and maybe some milk replacer if you feel it is not weaned just yet. Obviously water too!

rMilk substitute. And moistened puppy food.

Since you took her away from her mother at such a young age, she's probably going to be small most of her life. I got my cat when she was 8 days old (her mother was hit by a car). I bottlefed her and she's absolutely tiny ( 5 years old, 4 pounds), but very healthy, albiet a little strange...my massive, old male dog played mommy.

puppies aren't supposed to be taken from their mother till 8 weeks....you should probably be supplementing some milk and then start her on homemade kibble once she's rejecting the milk. you have to feed them every couple hours...you've got your work cut out for you.
