My 4 yr old spayed, indoor tortoiseshell has had mult.UTIs, usually observed by her urinating on my bed or some other place. She ends up on a 2 wk course of clavamox with resolution of the UTI. She's on Hill Science C/D diet exclusively for 6 mo.now. I got new style automatic type litter box, after our old automatic one stopped working & noticed she was not using it. I assumed she didn't like the new one but then I noticed how lethargic she was & also coat was not glossy. Vet started Clavamox, although unable to get a urine sample, but after several days, no improvement. Took her back in and he has had her now for six days, has taken mult. x-rays and urine samples, and now says she has a very unusual/abnl situation in that the neck of her bladder going into the urethra is dilated. He wants to continue to keep her through Tuesday (after Mem. Day), get more urine samples and continue to consult with other vet. What do you think?

Does sound unusual, perhaps the sphincter muscle at the urethra is damaged or overworked.

I recommend switching to Purina U/R for urinary health, the C/D works well also, but is higher in carbs and tends to fatten them up a bit too much.

If the relaxed sphincter has been chronic, perhaps that's the cause of her chronic UTIs (constant dampness from urine leakage creats a superhighway for bacteria to travel up into the bladder).
