Ricardo is the name of a person, "equivalent" to Richard in English.
However, unless it is only for literary purposes - for instance, when translating a play, hence dealing with fictional characters - you should never translate a person's name.
This is due to the fact that, if your name is "Mary", it is not because someone is talking or writing about you in Spanish or French that you start to be called "Maria" or "Marie"!
Does your name change in your passport or driving license whenever you are in a country where the official language is other than yours??? :))))

Ricardo isn't just Spanish, it's also Portuguese and French. It means 'strong power' in all the languages, in English it's equivalent would be Richard.
