Someone in Joseph, Oregon, told me this two days ago.

8% a year is clearly wrong. How do we know? We can use our own senses and know that it's not 8% warmer this year than last year and 16% warmer than two years ago. Do that for just a few years and we should be at the temperature of Venus.

Bob has a good citation on the misinformation Joeseph gave you.

The guy in Oregon has no idea what he's talking about.

Global warming is due to a combination of "natural" and human causes. One of the "natural" causes is variations in the sun, but these variations don't cause an 8% annual increase in temperatures on the Earth because

1) Sun variations are random - they don't increase consistenly 8% each year

2) Temperatures on Earth aren't increasing by a consistent 8% each year either

3) This also ignores other natural causes (such as volcanic eruption emissions) and human causes (such as aerosol and greenhouse gas emissions)

To summarize, the answer is a big fat no.

The sun is not increasing temperature by 8%. But the sun is a minor part (8% is not too far off) of the total global warming. Here's the hard, peer reviewed data:

Global warming is a natural phenomenon and it occurs like global cooling (Ice Age) every few hundred years. There are many contributors to warming and suns heat is one of them.

Heat from sun goes up for few years but this is not 8%. This figure is very high may be its contribution in total effect of temperature rise is 8%.

Present problem of Global warming is due to the natural cycle but this time the problem is we humans. We have increased the rate of rise in temperature due to our non sustainable way of living standards and due to this fast rise in temperature creatures big and small are not being able to adjust themselves. This will lead to extinction of many species and climatic changes which will be very harmful for us all.

Do check with this someone if he meant 8% of rise in temperature which I am sure it is.

No, the sun is not getting any hotter, our planet is because we are trapping heat at the top of earth filled with gas and oil dirt.Heat rises, right? Well the heat rising today is filled with dirty smoke, soot, oil, gas and it makes a ceiling above us. That traps so much air, incuding good, clean air that it's causing the whole planet to overheat. That is global warming. Ask your friend to stop blaming the sun.

ask the person in Joseph, Oregon, if Venus is warming at the same pace as the other planets that are farther from the sun that is claimed to be warming as a result of sun activity, and outside its usual seasonal weather patterns.
it should be if the sun is actually the cause.

buuuut.....you'll likely run into..."no comment."

The 8% figure is whack. That is not from science.
