I'm wondering what happens when you're in a coma in regards to weight. I understand that the human body will burn approximately 1000 calories / day at rest, but how many calories do they administer to a coma patient.

Please no b/s answers.

Yes, usually the only sustenance is an IV until calories are administered in the beginning, until they place a tube for feeding, then only enought to keep the organs healthy,...

After seeing this I just have to share something because I spent several years switching from diet to diet without any success until I discovered Pams magic plan (just google it). It is without a doubt the best weight loss that I have ever had and it is still working to this day.

i haven't learned the details yet, but in a coma your body is kinda like running on "light mode" where a lot of its normal functions have been scaled down to save energy. even with artificial means of giving those patients food, most of them don't get enough calories and loose a lot of weight.

since body needs about 50cal/hour just for basic functioning thats 1200cal/day.
they lose weight because they are not moving - muslce. i was surprised how fast i lost muslce when i was in hospital and couldnt get out of bed (i was hit by a car). i started losing muscle after 48h and in 10 days my legs were stick thin (i had a lot of muscle no them before since i worked out regularly and was a dancer).

yes they do. they are given an extremely nutritious liquid diet with only the amount of calories they need to maintain basic body functions.

Yes, typically they do. But this is not a recommended way to diet. Neither are prison camps, being trapped in a mine, or getting lost in a desert.
