The easiest way to do that is to use your car as little as possible. Instead of maybe going to the grocery store every day or every other day like some people do, try to plan ahead so that you can buy everything you need for one week, or two weeks, or even a month, all in one trip to the store. It will save you time, and you will save on gas money, which would do what you said, cut car pollution.
Something my wife and I have started to do is every time we go out for dinner, we ride our bikes there instead of driving, that way we cut pollution, save on gas, and we get some exercise, so the calories we eat don't make us fat. Obviously you can't always ride a bike everywhere, but I am sure that there is somewhere you could ride a bike instead of driving.
Also, try carpooling, it is a nice break to not have to drive every day, let someone else worry about the road, and at the same time, you cut pollution.
Another way is to make sure your car is tuned up and change filters, that will help cut the pollution.
So there are a few simple answers to things that anyone and everyone can and should do to help cut pollution and limit the use of gas.

Obviously, you can decrease the air pollution caused by your automobile by driving it as little as possible.
For the times when it is necessary to drive, you can increase your gas mileage, and therefore decrease your negative affect on the air, by driving efficiently. Driving really fast and aggressively uses much more gas than driving 55-60 mph and braking and accelerating slowly when possible. According the the U.S. Department of Energy, aggressive driving can lower your gas mileage by up to 33%. That's a lot! Driving over 60 mph lowers your gas mileage considerably as well.
I recently took a road trip in a 1995 Toyota Corolla (which is not a hybrid vehicle) and I got 45 miles per gallon, because I drove 60 mph and accelerated and decelerated gradually. It might have taken me a little longer to get to my destination, but I saved a measurable amount of money and I was little more friendly to the earth. I consider it time well spent!

If you are a stay at home Mom/Dad, then try to plan on getting all your running on one day a week.
If more people rode the bus, then that would be one bus with fumes, minus 40 cars!
If you live in the city, (I live in the country) then you could walk everyday to do different chores if possible...
.
There will always be cars........Maybe we should all push our cities for "Street cars" to be built. In fact, they knew about this problem 20-30 years ago, and should have built the street cars then,,,Duh
I'll do what ever it takes to help this problem......
