I think they are all stupid. Obedience training is not their forte. But they are really cute.

Your pup is not stupid-it may be the method you are using to train and how long the training sessions are. Always start and finish a session when you say not when the dog says but always stop before they lose interest. A good time to start is about 5 minutes and gradually work your way up. Reward with praise and a medium good treat for basic commands and praise and a high want treat for more difficult ones. You need to train yourself to stay calm and patient when training too otherwise the pup will not be as responsive because it will sense your frustrations. If the pup doesn't seem to be into training right now wait a week and try again. All dogs have their own sense of time when it comes to starting training and it has nothing to do with the breed. I have trained 2 labs and one was ready to go a 6 weeks and the other didn't start until almost 12 weeks. The more interest they have the better they will learn. Good luck! A good place to start is by getting the pup on a regular feeding and potty schedule-train when the pup is hungry so the reward will be more appealing.

I don't know how old your pup is, but training a puppy that is under 10 weeks old(ish) is pretty difficult considering they have trouble retaining any information until they get older. The main thing when training is consistency and patience - the more you get aggitated and mad the less good you are doing. Dogs can sense your emotions and if you let on that you are impatient then the pup will absolutely have no incentive to do what you are asking it to do.
I would look into enrolling in some sort of puppy class - they help with socialization and obedience training. They can be expensive, but I thin PetSmart offers a pretty cheap one that will help you out.
Good luck with the puppy! Just try to stay calm and patient and he'll eventually catch on.

Training bully breeds is very hard to do, because they are so stubborn.
You may not be keep his attn when you are training him.
I think you should go to a professional dog trainer, which you can find on the internet or go to Petsmart or Petco, learn how to train a puppy from them and you should be set.

Also get some book on training bully breeds, once you know what you are doing, it'l come easy. Don't give up!

Good luck! My puppy is 15 weeks old and she is an American Bulldog mix, and she already knows sit, down, stay, and almost potty trained.

Bulldogs are not any where being STUPID. How ever they are ver stubborn. I got one at 6 weeks old she is now 8 weeks and she knows to use the paper ( I don't take my dogs out until they get their second set of shots otherwise they often don't have the immunity and can get all sorts of things. She is starting to sit on command. It's just patients and repetition and a LOT of patience. Reward when good and totally ignore when being bad they will catch on. Also crate training and a good dog obedience class. Mine is starting puppy training next week and dog obed. class after she finishes puppy class.

Acquire a book named "Family Dog" by Richard A Wolters for the best methods in dog training. The book isn't just a training manual, as when you read it you will laugh & @ times cry. Oh, by the way, your Olde English Bulldog is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier but are very lovable little dummies! Good luck

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/cbcix

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

beyond basic potty training, and they have to be physically able to do that, you'll want to get all the puppy shots finished around 16 wks, then socialize as well as train. You could then enroll him in puppy awareness (training/obedience) & that would kill two birds with one stone. (for lack of a better cliche) Everything is a new exploration for your puppy and distraction is DEF gonna happen; for some, worse than others, LOL!

Be patient, so that u can be both calm & assertive. never hit, never yell. repetition & consistency. good luck!

As far as I know, English bulldogs are as smart as any other breed. Puppies are like little kids--very short attention spans--so patience on your part is an absolute requirement.

You may want to ask a trainer about the proper methods for your puppy...

Be patient and assertive. Reward desired behavior/response. Don't expect your dog to be doing crosswords or anything like that overnite. Imagine training a 1 yr-old human. A dog will learn just the same or faster. Plus, they have to learn your language, too. Be consistent and say what you mean. If you say "get down" meaning get 'prone' don't use same phrase if you want him off the couch..... Repetition is the key.
