I was not a Dale fan or am I a Jr fan. But I do believe that they played an important part in the sport and have brought it to the level it is at this time. Jr is a talented driver who with the right team will win races, he is a brilliant business person who stands to make millions, that I take notice in.

He would have some Fans. He is a very charasmatic guy; does alot of charity work. He has Budweiser as a Sponsor; and there where some Little E Fans around when Big E was still racing.
No doubt he would not have the popularity he enjoys right now had it now been for his Father. But, he has won some races; been in the Chase; The Ladies seem to like him. I think there would be a handful of people out there who care about Junior regardless of who his Father is.

No. If Dale Earnhardt, Sr. had been a truck driver, stock broker or a school teacher, we would not be having this discussion. Dale, Jr. is where he is because his father was a successful racer, taught his son how to be a good racer and provided top notch equipment for him to drive.
When Dale, Jr. was winning Busch championships he had his father sitting on the pit box, coaching him. When Jr. was taking the Cup scene by storm, his father was there supporting him. Sr. is gone now, and Jr.'s performance seems to sag more and more the longer it is since the 2001 Daytona wreck. Jr. cannot be a great driver because his mentor is dead.

It's really a mute point. Dale jr is who he is and would have fans regardless of his Dad just like Jeff or Jimmie or Kasey or Harvick or Jarrett or Petty or whoever. He has won more races than a lot of other drivers and he doesn't wreck everybody. So, yes, he would still have people care about him regardless of what some people see or doesn't see.

Jr. would still be a very popular driver,as popular, is anyone guess.JR. is talented but what he has going for him is he's a good ol' boy, while Nascar is no longer just a southern states sport, there are still a zillion fans that will never cheer for anyone from calif. sorry J.J. and Jeff, thats just the way it is.Another thing that solidified Jr.s popularity was winning at Daytona (Coca-Cola 400 in July) the year his dad was killed. When he and michael stood on their cars in the infield after the race.Legions of fans were instantly his.A great Nascar moment and why non race fans will never get our sport.

If not for his dad and grandfather Dale Jr. would not have had the chance to be where he is. It's just the reality that without good parents who help their kids not many people get to such high positions so others will be asking such questions about them. It's just natural for decent people to hope Jr. does well after his dad died like that, and if a similar thing happened to you people would hope you could be successful after such a loss. I'm a Ford fan, 99 in particular, but we are all human, and Jr. seems to be a good guy so I wish him well in what is a rougher life than you might realize.

No, and if he had another sponsor than Budweiser , then the other half of the crowd, know nothing part of his fans, all the know is Budweiser. If you say no, go to the track, just look around wherever you go, and then tell yourself your sorry for being so blind. Jeffs not himself at the track? What did he put on mask and assume another identity? This is the kind of stuff that comes out of Budweisers fans! that have not a clue about Nascar and act like they do to fit into a group.

Some people would care about him because he is a decent driver but he certainly would not have the following he enjoys right now. I think Kevin Harvick is a better driver but I'll admit I liked him at first because he took over the 3 car. Go 29 !!

First of all, his dad wasn't the greatest, Richard Petty was. But to answer your question, jr's fans are cheering the name not the driver.

Earnhardt wasn't the greatest. I feel bad about him dying, but if he hadn't been killed as he was, he'd just be considered an above-average driver, who used wrecking people and dirty racing tactics to get many of his victories. Dale Jr. would be in a similar position as Kyle Petty, son of the REAL greatest driver, he would have some fans but most people would be saying he'll never be as good as his dad.
