Yes,it is rising ,much quicker than anyone had or has predicted because of the excess amount of CO2 in the air.Scientists are saying and are so far right about the sea level rising because of melting glaciers.By 2050 or much sooner the sea level will rise 40 ft.!

I believe sea level is rising because more floods are expected in todays society then what it was 100 of years ago. A good example is the ice melting in Antartica if all that ice melts studies have shown it would raise the sea level by minimum of 20 to 100 feet.Sea level has risen around 130 metres (400 feet) since the peak of the last ice age about 18,000 years ago. Most of the rise occurred before 6,000 years ago. From 3,000 years ago to the start of the 19th century sea level was almost constant, rising at 0.1 to 0.2 mm/yr. Since 1900 the level has risen at 1 to 2 mm/yr; since 1992 satellite altimetry from TOPEX/Poseidon indicates a rate of rise about 3 mm/yr. The IPCC notes, however, "No significant acceleration in the rate of sea level rise during the 20th century has been detected."

Yes, the oceans levels are rising at an alarming rate. It is estimated that within 10 years many of the coastal areas will become flooded. The estimate is that the oceans wll rise by as much as 3 meters (A little over 9 feet), which will have devestating results in areas like California, the Midwest through the Mississippi Basin, and Florida, where the rise will pretty much destroy the Florida Everglades, along the Mexican coast, and through Texas and Louisiana.

After the results of Hurricane Katrina, you can well imagine what this will do to the area there, including the refineries located there. This will push up prices on just about everything that comes from these areas, including oil and gas prices, which will thrill the oil industry no end, as once again, they will jack up prices on gas and oil even more, and take even larger profits.

Don't be fooled into thinking it will cost the oil industry, they have massive insurance on these refineries, with the actual value of the refineries kited way above what they are actually worth. The oil companies will, of coarse claim that they have lost huge sums of money on the lost oil production that those refineries produce yearly.

The price of orange juice, rice, and other crops produced in the flooded areas will rise due to the loss of these areas which produce these crops, causing prices on these items to rise dramatically, straining the American citizen's already stressed finances, and many will be unable to survive financially.

The populations of these flooded areas will, of coarse, move farther inland, and landlords will of coarse raise the prices on rents in the areas where the influx of people fleeing the flooded areas will be the greatest.

Of coarse, none of what is stated here includes the impact on other countries, like India, whrer flooding is already a problem, nor Japan, which is all volcanic islands. In China, where the main source of fresh water is runoff from glacial melt, the water shortage will hit extremely hard, as the glacial sheet will melt rapidly, causing a dwindling supply of fresh water.

These countries will become desperate in their need of fresh water, and there is the possibility that widespread war will break out in regions that are hardest hit as people seek to just survive.

So, as you can see, the rising sea levels will have a domino effect, causing many problems, not just here in the States, but across the world.
