At 46, you should be still retaining your vigor ang stamina good enough for 60 hour work per week ( if not weakened by illness etc). So you are still fit for job at oil fields.
Generally problem lies else where. If you have family & young children you feel to be with them when you are away at oil field .
So, better for you to have contracts with provision for family accomodation at job site if possible , or home travell facility @ 3 month intervals.

Hey Jalisco,
Come out of it, A man with tech. exp. is never old, infact he becomes a consultant, because no body can know his m/cs(or field) better than him.Only thing u hv to keep urself fit n active.
Take my example am 62, still go around every day of apprx. 2sq.kmtrs.site of fabrication, inspecting each n every fit up n assy and keep record of oil n gas co.as Quality Controle Incharge.

May not be. Esp. if your work is not too physically demanding. Ask them and see instead of wondering. Trying and failing is better than failing to try.
