As long as he is responsible enough to handle the car alone, I think 16 is a good age to start dating. He's 12, not a baby. Be careful how you proceed. If you try to protect him, you could cripple him emotionally. He WILL get hurt at some point in his life. Chances are, he already has been hurt by someone in some way. Be the parent he can go to, not parent who will say, "I told you so." I think the fact that you are thinking about this shows you care. Keep up the good work! Good luck and best wishes.

12 is way too young! Letting him go out on dates when he is in the 6th grade is asking for trouble. I don't think he wants to be a dad right now or you want to be a grandma just yet. 16 at the earliest. Maybe by then he will be more mature.

14-15. Don't worry about him being hurt, it's part of life, and assuming you have brought him up well, It's almost time to start stepping back a little bit and give him some freedom and space. It's a mistake to think of him as your baby, because he is NO LONGER THAT. Don't mess him up by smothering him, just let him know how much you love him, that he can always come to you with anything, and that he is responsible to God as well as you and himself.

I don't think that 12 year olds need to be alone together, but I think that kind of a group date would be ok, like if a bunch of them were going to the movies or skating or getting together at someones house. You have to start letting them have some independence to be who they are without just completely letting them do whatever they want to.

I'd let him. But be sure he knows "the talk" and what could happen. He might not know about that or be thinking about that, but i started at 13 so be careful.

12 is much too young. Tell those girls not to call again. He should wait until he's 16 or so. His schoolwork comes first.

i think 14 is a good age for supervised hang outs and 15 is ok for group dates. 16 for one on one. you know just gently ease him into it and giving a little bit more freedom as you develop trust. Good luck!
