research into a dog that would fit ur lifestyle the best. stay away from breeds that require lots of dominance such as malamutes and shepards, as first timer they will quickly rule u. i love german shepards dont get me wrong but 95% of people that own 1 dont understand how demanding the breed is. general research online will help u nail down what type suit u best. if u live in a small apt and work 50hours a week u dont want a large high energy dog stuff like that

Poodles are NOT aggressive dogs at all. They are people dogs. They love to be around people all the time. I wouldn't say they are high maintenance either. Just brush out their hair once a day and get them groomed every other month and they are fine. As the others said, look for a dog that will fit your lifestyle. Try going to a humane society, there are so many dogs that need love. I have a toy poodle and she is my pride and joy but I also have a poodle/cocker spaniel mix that we got from the humane society and she is the best dog in the world.

That actually depends on you. Poodle are high stung and are kown as barkers although I have 4 but I trained them form pups not to get away with all that yapping.
Poodle are also known for earinfections and the hair needs to be plucked from tehir ears this would be done by a proffessional groomer( if they are good) as poodle need to be groomed professionally avery 2-3 months )( unless you know what you are doing) inbetween you need to bruch them thoutoughly every day.
Please pick a few breeds you are interested, check out as much as you can from teh library, internet, etc. contact teh vet you are planning to use ask them and see if they know of any good breeders to get a pup from. DO NOT GET A PUP FROM A PET STORE.
A lot in choosing a dog depends on how much time you have, activity level, etc.
Poodle can be a hand ful my sister breeds schnoodles which are a poodle/schnauzer mix and tehy are much more layed back. hers have never gotten ove 10 pounds.
Good Luck with whatevr you choose

Any breed is a good breed as long as you train them right and have the time and financial ability to take care of them properly. Poodles are a lot of grooming work so you may want to research a good groomer now and take the pup in to meet them as soon as you can without the groomer doing anything to them but just meeting. It will be easier on you the pup and groomer in the long run if the get a relationship going before the trauma of a grooming session. Do some on line research on Poodles to make sure you will have the time and energy for that breed. Dogbreedinfo is a good place to start.

They take A LOT of grooming to not look like a dirty mop. If you really want a poodle get a miniture party poodle. I had a miniture poodle when i was younger i got from a poodle rescue but my sister is a dog groomer so i had it easy. you might want to choose something that isn't going to cost a few 100$ a month just for grooming.

I had a toy poodle and he was the most amazing dog I've ever had. Great choice! They don't shed and they're the perfect lap dog. Just be careful with which one you choose though; Some poodles tend to yap at everything, so if that bothers you be very picky in your choosing.

Poodles are highly intelligent dogs originally bred as hunters. They are high maintenance and require regular grooming. Great all around dog for kids or seniors just a little high strung.

Hello...get what you like..no such thing as bad dogs, just bad people/owners & breeders ...to know you have a good breeder, they will have ALL the know about the dog, family history & they will show you the parents, or at least the moms & how they were cared for...DO NOT buy purebreds from some Mall Pet Shop - most are not reputable & they come from Puppy Mills - VERY BAD !! You can learn to do the simple hair cutting no problem, hate them FuFu Pommie cuts they for shows anyway...so stupid looking ..LOL, it's for the owners, surely not, the dogs !! Take Care :)

You need to find out what your personality and activity levels indicate that will indicate what breed you're most compatible with.
What are you looking for in a dog?
What kind of activities do you usually do?
What kind of activities would you want to do with the dog.
Poodles are NOT the dog for ME. I was given a teacup poodle once and it was a bad match. I see poodles as immature and demanding. Others see them differently and love them.
I see chihuahuas as yappy and a pain in the neck.
I like an intelligent dog that I can communicate with. My dogs are calm, smart, independent minded and very loveable. They are my guardians.
You have to find what's right for you.
Here are some websites to help you select what is right for you.

Yes, absolutely. They take on the personality of their owner. Very intelligent, my uncle had a standard sized poodle and because he was a 'man's man' the dog thought he was a doberman! My mother had one and hers had a beautiful, affectionate, gentle personality, just like Mum. They are very active, though and benefit from things like obedience training, just as an outlet for all that energy.
