Bagels get the bad rap because they are heavy with calories and if you get them from a deli they're normally huge. However as unhealthy foods go they're not so deserving of a bad rap. Of course people who load them up with cream cheese, among other things, aren't helping themselves.
If you get a huge bagles, eat half and save half for later.
Eat a whole grain bagel.
Go light on the toppings, use Fat Free cream cheese or light butter.
Eat a smaller bagel.
Bagels are very filling so really if you eat one for breakfast it may very well carry you through until lunch and you skip the whole mid-morning snack attack.
If you need to gain weight, eat a bagel and feel guilt free. However I would lose the butter and go for peanut butter!!

Bagels are first flash cooked in WATER then baked. They are not THAT bad for you, but if you eat a large one with butter; well then that's your diet and you will gain weight. But for most of us, just eat 1/2 with a bit of whipped cream cheese.
Whipped has less calories and fat because you use less of it; and it would be redundit to say why half a bagel has less calories.

It's mostly all empty carbs. It's even worse if you pile on the butter or cream cheese. If you are craving a bagel, go with a whole grain bagel and fat free cream cheese.

Bagels are generally pretty healthy, but some of the stuff people put on them can be the downfall of them.
Bagels are indeed larger than 1 slice of bread, so include them in your diet accordngly. Doesn't mean they're "unhealthy" though!

I'm really tired of people labeling any food unhealthy. All food is healthy. It is fuel. How you use it is what counts. Come on everyone, let's stop this "unhealthy" garbage about what is fuel for your body.
