Costa del Sol on 50th Street and Ninth Avenue is wonderful before the theatre. The service is excellent and they always see that we're out in time for the show. Costa Del Sol is Spanish - not Mexican. For $25, you get a complete dinner with a ton of choices - AND IT's GOOD! You get a choice of soup or salad - (I never order salad when there's another choice, so I can't comment). My favorite soup is the Caldo Gallego - from Galecia Spain - a delicious hearty soup with bacon, chorizo sausage, white beans, kale and other vegetables; you can also order the cold gazpacho or a chicken soup with noodles. You have a choice of more than twenty entrees - at least six different shrimp dishes - my favorites are the very lightly floured shrimp with wine sauce and the garlic shrimp - HUGE portions. You can also order salmon, paella, a whole lobster with butter sauce, various chicken dishes, mixed seafoods, veal., pork chops. These come with saffron rice and string beans - large platters on the table for everyone. You also get dessert and coffee - the cheesecake is good, but you can have flan or rice pudding or icecream. As if all this food weren't enough of a bargain, if two of you order this three course dinner, you can get a bottle of red or white wine for only $6 more ($3 each)

If I have a lot of time, I like to eat at Del Valle on Tenth Avenue and 48th Street - really good, inexpensive Mexican food (authentic cooking from Puebla, so they serve dishes you won't find in most New York Mexican restaurants). The most expensive entree here is about $15 (the excellent seafood soup). Entrees are served with homemade tortillas and rice and beans (or salad). Most appetizers are less than three dollars. I only go here if I have a lot of time - service can be very slow. They usually close about 10pm so there's no time to eat here after the show.
There is a bar, the Joshua Tree on 46th and Ninth, that serves a very good lobster with baked potato and corn for $15. They have some nice, gooey desserts and the service is fast.

After the theatre, I like Pigalle on Eighth Avenue and 48th - they have a very varied menu, pleasant waitstaff, and they are opened all night, so they don't rush you.

New York is steeply-priced! A burger, fries & Coke at McDonalds's will set you again approximately $eight. In addition to pay as you go circular-shuttle airplane price tag and the hostel costs (are you definite the quoted cost involves all taxes?), you have got to get from the airport to the hostel and again together with your baggage, get the Metrocard, no less than $30/day for meals. There are admissions costs for the entire museums, enjoyment -- like a few beverages at a membership can set you again $20-50. If you simplest have $one hundred/day moreover to airplane, hostel, Metrocard, you're in situation and are particularly proscribing your self. NYC has a high-quality deal to present, however you have got priced your self out of acquiring the exceptional of the town -- no Broadway or off-Broadway exhibit, no ballet, opera, live performance, no exciting eating places, golf equipment, World Cruise round Manhattan. Last I checked, it was once $nine simply to take the elevator to the Observation Deck of the Empire State Bldg.

I think it's hard to beat Pearl's Oyster Bar at 6th Ave and Cornelius St. I would go to the Village after the theatre. Pearl's is open 'til 11. There's lots of great clubs near there for after dinner drinks.

Lattanzi on w 46th....great food , great prices and really nice staff. It is owned by italian-jews...so the food is not typical italian , great variety. The fried artichokes and homemade chocolate mousse are to die for. I had my engagement party there 2 years ago and people are still raving!
