There has been an inside fight about why smoking shouldn't be banned from public places. Do you know any reasons why it shouldn't be banned. If so please let me know.

Indoor public government places it should be banned, like courthouses, municipal offices, DMV, schools, ect. Outdoor, never, with possibly the exception of playgrounds.

Indoor public places such as resaurants, it should be legal. It is my right as a business owner to chooses whether smoking is legal or not. Not the government.

It comes down to economics, why do all deparment stores not allow smoking? Not because the government told them to, but because it makes them more money. People don't want to buy clothes that smell like smoke. As less and less people smoke, more and more people will demand areas of non-smoking, resulting in more and more places not allowing smoking. If Chili's thinks banning smoking in all of their restaurants will make them more money they will do. Right now, they fell that they would force smoking customers to go to say, Applebee's and not gain enough non-smokers. When that perception changes they will change. And if Chili's does it and makes more money Applebee's, Friday's, Red Lobster, ect will change to non-smoking.

It isn't in the constitution that everyone has the right to go to a non-smoking business. If you don't like the smoke, don't go. If they lost money they will change. This argument that it is for the employees benifit is B.S., we don't stop people from working in coal mines which is 100 times worse than second hand smoke, we don't let people not work heavy machinery incease they hurt them selves. Nobody forces you what job to work, you have choice I am not a garbage man because I don't want to smell like trash. Some people don't mind, and I guarantee there are people who don't mind the smoke.

Let us choose where we can and cannot smoke, not the government. By the way, I am not a smoker.

Depends on what you are calling a public place. A business owner of a privately owned bar/pub should be able to decide for themselves whether or not smoking is allowed. Government buildings, universities, and other places where people have to go to probably should have a ban. You can choose to go to a bar that allows smoking or you stay away. In my city we had a ban for 3 months and I know at least half of the bars lost money. Which caused them to lay off employees and cut hours just to stay in business. The non smokers who said they would make up the loss revenues never showed up. The majority of non smokers dont frequent bars. A ban just hurts the owners and takes away the choice of the smoker on where to go. A ban allows non smokers an open door to everywhere and a closed door to the smoker.

Indoor public or outdoor public? There is a big difference.

My view is that the smoking policy should be up to the owner of the establishment. If someone is so against smoking, don't go to the establishment. Why should a business owner be forced to hinder clientele due to a new regulation.

Example:
A New Jersey club owner learned the ban on smoking indoors in New Jersey was immanent. He built a deck from the rear of his club to allow his clientele to go outside and smoke. Shortly before the law passed, an addendum was added that wouldn't allow smoking within 50 feet of the door of a public building. This club owner lost his clientele and his money he spent on the deck.

The biggest, bans are against the freedom of the people, yea smoking is bad but we're talking bans, they have gotten out of control whereby a few people tell the majority what to do, wear, and say. If that isn't Orwell's 1984 then the book never was written.

First, we must define "public" places. A privately owned business is not a public place. Therefore, the owner(s) should decide whether they want to allow smoking.

I smoke. I do not smoke in public places because it is offensive to others. I smoke where other people smoke.
Not in my car, not in my house.
In my back yard with a coffee can for an ash tray. Like a criminal. Or a pot smoker.
I think smoking in public is akin to pooping in public.
There is a special look God gave us for something like that. lol
Yes... that's it! the one you just used lol.
I don't smoke in public and I am trying to quit.

that's the key here PUBLIC places , a store , restaurant, shopping mall . and the like are not PUBLIC places they are PRIVATE property open to the public for business reasons , and the government has no damn business telling any owner how to run their business
