Never get hung up on figures, scales, and numbers in terms of being healthy they are irrelevant, aim for fitness. I agree “4577888443” (What kind of name is that!?) said, nothing remarkable will come by losing 20lb. Eat moderately but that is no reason to restrict certain foods, just don’t over indulge.

Exercise is important, whether you‘re losing weight or not, I think it should always be actively encouraged, they say so many young people are suffering harder at the hands of stress and depression, I‘ve found exercise the natural cure.

Running is an excellent exercise to take up, the personal development through running can help other areas of ones life flourish with more clarity. Don’t be worried about starting with zero fitness, most runners start unable to run for more than 30 seconds in the beginning, myself included in that. Run 30 seconds, walk a minute, and gradually increase the time you spend running versus the time you spend walking, pushing yourself just a little further each time, though make sure you both get proper running shoes otherwise you could end up injuring yourself! It seems impossible but it never is, as I said, I could hardly run 30 seconds, I can run 5 miles frequently these days.

Swimming is an initially nerve wrecking exercise to do if you’re self conscious about your body, but the thing that got me back into the pool was realising I’d spend more time submerged in the water than I would out, so no one would really see me for long! Though the reality of that is true, I also found going when there was ‘lane swimming’ that other people are there, just like you trying to keep fit, and they honestly couldn’t care less what you look like. Swimming is a great exercise as it works lots of different muscles in one session, and the added resistance of the water gives it a strengthening benefit, and there is no stress on the joints.

If you need a kick for motivation look into team sports or even individual sports but involve getting together with a group ie. Climbing, canoeing, karate et cetera. The school you go to would be the easiest place to find these as most have clubs but if you want to get away from that side (which I can’t blame you!) and make new friends then there are plenty of sport related clubs about from football (boys and girls) netball, basketball, rugby and so on, look in the local paper, online, as ever be cautious when going to clubs for the first time and no matter how much of a drag it is, insist a parents or friend stays until you’re settled in and are happy to stay.

Are you in puberty or not? Kids have high metabolism but they can't lose fat as easy as a teen or early 20 year old can. No pop what so ever. Even diet is unhealthy. Keep your carbs and calories low. Around 50-60 carbs a day and no less than about 1500 calories. Try weight training or running on a treadmill or stationary bike. Watch the nutritional facts on what you eat. Things are decieving.

Hi,
It is always good to ask your doctor. At any age burning more calories than you are taking in will definately help the situation. Try to find a fun activity, such as playing a sports, swimming, walking with friends to the park in safe hours, riding a bike, skating, dancing is a fun way to lose weight, just turn on your music and dance 30 minutes to and hour a day. You can do that in the privacy of your own home, go to a community center, or take a dance class. The most important thing is not to skip meals, you are young and still developing, all kinds of changes are going on and your body needs good nutrients. Despite what thin people may think, not eating will not cause you to lose weight. If you starve your body it will store calories that will cause you to gain weight. Eat balance meals, low in sugars and sodiums, If you mess up, just forgive yourself, Encourage yourself, if you accept yourself, you give yourself power to accomplish what you now believe you deserve. We teach parents in Head Start (a program for pre school age children), that every child develops at different levels. That does not stop after Head Start. Be a Verb , Take action, be active. Now ask yourself am I really overweight, or do I just want to be accepted by a certain group of people who may not even be worth their weight. GOOOO! VERB

In order to loose weight, you have to consume fewer calories, and exercise! I use the 4-4-2-4 plan - 4 servings of carbs, 4 servings of fruits and veggies (a combo of the two equaling 4), 2 servings of protein, and 3 to 4 servings of dairy per day (I learned that plan in health class). Exercise is very important, and keep in mind that as you exercise, you gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you may not think you've lost as much weight as you wanted to, but you should be able to see results. (clothing size etc.) Also, don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen quickly! I've heard that a healthy rate is 2 pounds per week. It just takes some time and patience!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

metabolism is generally the culprit. 20 pounds? thats what... 9 kg? pfft. 13 year olds should NOT be trying to lose 9 kg. if anything, its dangerous. don't try and fight your body at this age. i know you feel self conscious, but maybe you should talk to your school councilor. one of my friends in high school weighed way more than me (skinny as hell), and he ate way less than me, and no he wasn't cheating. he just had a slow metabolism, just as i have (still!) a fast one at 19. i cant gain 9kg if i want to, and unlike you, id give anything to GAIN 9kg.

dont go to the gym. you'll probably damage your frame and/or cause irriversable damage. i wanted to. i really did. try running. slowly increasing distance as you go.
better yet, get a fat friend to train with you. or still better, get a caring fit friend to train with you.

remember, just cause you're big doesn't mean you cant be fit. that same friend of mine was WAAAAAY fitter than me, and could just - - - - keep - - - - running. no matter what. bloody diesel engine.

chin up son. age 23 you can do what you like. pack it on, rip it off. truely - your choice.
IF however, it cause you love your lil happy meals. STOP IT. demand cooked, balanced meals. none of this heat up in the microwave stuff. get mum to cook goddammit! if she can't - do a cooking class together, it'll be good for both of you as individuals and as mother-child. yes - you're a child.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!
