I adopted an 8 week old kitten and found out she has fleas. She's less than 2 lbs so I'm unsure what to use to help get rid of them. With my older cat I'd use capstar + boric acid, but I'm not sure if these would be harmful to the baby.

Also, since she has fleas it's inevitable that my 4 year old will get them as well. Can I give him regular frontline with the baby near by?

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: My vet in San Diego recommended orthoboric acid for carpet treatments, and has also been recommended by a vet here in Houston. Non-toxic in small amounts, it's commonly used by professional exterminators to treat fleas, roaches, ants and other exoskeletal pests. Also used in eye washes and vaginal suppositories (for humans).

However, the vets never said anything about KITTENS, which is why I asked.

Frontline is safe for 8 weeks and older. If she's sickly, apply it asap, enough fleas can literally bleed a kitten dry.

BORIC ACID? Don't use that on any cat, especially a young one?

Go to your vet to get treatment appriate for an 8 week old kitten. Frontline drops should be safe for kittens from 8 weeks of age, but Frontline spray is even safer and can be used on kittens from two days of age. Don't be using any home remedies of stuff from pet shops - they're not safe and they're not effective, that's why they're cheaper.

Chalice boric acid, or simply borax from the grocery store is a safe and effective way for eliminating fleas from carpets. I don't the the poster was saying to apply it to the animal. :-)
