I am a service memeber, and I cannot believe all the horrible things that I see everyone talking about how the president has sent everyone to thier deaths. Memorial Day is to remeber, yes...however, it's also to heal and spend time with family.
We usually have a cook out because of the warmer weather and winter finally being over. We have cook outs because we like to spend time with our families and freinds. You sound like a very distrubed individual that needs to get over the fact that "Life is life, because there is an ending". You need and everyone needs a time to cherish the time that we have together and honor those who have come before us by not making accusations.

You don't have to cook out if you don't too. I just think that as the kick off of summer its easier to make hot dogs and hamburgers or whatever else on the grill for a large group of people celebrating our troops & all that they do for this great country. Besides people can make red white and blue Jello dishes and things like that- -- it can easily get very patriotic--

well several have already answered this question with excellent answers. First, I think most Americans do honor and remember our lost heroes in arms who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms...no matter what war it is on Memorial Day. And yes, we have cook outs, but just remember that weekend serves as sort of a kick-off to the summer months and since its a holiday weekend, more families are able to get together to celebrate it. My family always goes to church together then off to our town's Legion Memorial Day service to remember the fallen, then we go home to celebrate with a picnic type meal. You shouldn't just focus on our vets and the deceased one day of the year, but be honoring them every day...they deserve it! I had a best friend killed in Iraq in 2004 and he would want us to celebrate and have cookouts on Memorial Day. Just as long as we keep our fallen warriors in our hearts and minds it is comepletely acceptable.

Memorial Day is about remember those who have died.

Most family's get together for family reunions or cook-outs so that they can be together remember the loved one's they have lost and to appreciated the family members that are still living. So they have a cook out so that they can spend time with each other.

I do honor all troops that have served, and especially the ones that have given the ultimate sacrifice, it is a day for our fallen hero's, not political bullsh*t.

understand.

We cook out because that's what the soldiers would've wanted. Besides, it's the first 3-day weekend of the summer!

i do that almost daily...the cook out is just an extra thing that i do on memorial day...

that and Americans LOVE cook outs, we take any chance we can to either have a cook out...or drink/party...

take cinco de mayo for example.....that has NOTHING to do with America, yet people go out and party, most of them don't even know what it's about..

It's good for business. If people are at Veteran's cemeteries or Memorials they are not buying discounted TVs, furniture; Steaks and hot dogs to barbecue, buying hamburgers, or staying at hotels.
To answer your question-yes but why spoil the party?

I think its because most people view it as just a three day weekend and not a day to remember those that have died for our country
