I have used this unit about 4 times. It was brand new when I bought it. What can I do to fix it? It is probably not worth bringing in to a repair shop since it will cost more to fix than it is worth. It is past its warranty period. Any ideas?

Try taking the cover off & see if anything fell inside(label off a tape etc) the unit, something that may cause the takeup reel (the black one on the right) not to pick up the tape. Usually a bad idler assembly will cause this problem. It is the assem. located between the 2 black reels.
Possibly by not running it very much, one of your motor is sticking, try giving them all a spin, just to see if they spin free.
Cleaning will definitely not stop a VCR from grabbing tapes.
